Anthem (JPN) Great live H&K triamp tones

I had the Mk 1 and liked the cleans. Didn't like the distorted sounds much

I also A/B'd a Mk 2 with a JCM 2000 TSL that was on sale for the same price. The Marshall straight up sounds better (without muh boost pedals, too. would you look at that!)

Never tried the Mk 3

Band sounds killer here, though. Very tight playing

I loved the mark I; it's finicky to dial in, and with speakers though. Especially for the distortion sounds.

It absolutely hates t75s and isn't too much better with greenbacks

It really excels with midrange forward or at the very least "unscooped" speakers

That makes sense lol I was using my Marshall 1960AX 4x12 with it

I mean, looking back it sounded better than the Kemper/FM3 rig I was using before that, but I can't pretend I didn't like it the second least of all the amps I've owned.

It's been a long time since I had one, but I have some clips somewhere of it - it sounds quite good. Especially on the higher gain orange channel. It was basically V30s or bust with it, though.

Oh yeah I remember the exact moment I decided to get rid of it now

I was jamming with a buddy, and he was playing a 5152 through a Marshall cab with G12Ts, and he was absolutely burying me. So I went "fuck this. I gotta get me one of those" 😂

But it did sound great through the Mesa OS cab with V30s that day for sure

I'm convinced that some amps are "only guitar player in the band" amps, and other amps are "multiple guitar player in the band" amps

In almost every example I've heard of a triamp sounding great, it's the only guitar player's amp. Odd.

Check out live Grave Digger stuff if you want another salient example. I was cynical when they switched from Bogners to H&K but they sound just as great live as ever.

I had a Hughes & Kettner Triamp Mark II for about 45 minutes.

Back in 2005 walked into a pawnshop and they had a head marked for $250 .

I’d already knew about these amps from guitar world and guitar player, and I knew they were worth several thousand dollars new.

This amp didn’t come with a channel switching pedal, and at the time I didn’t own any cabs.

I decided to go ahead and buy if for $250 out the door, and took it to GC where they gave me $900 cash on the spot.

So I’ve never got to play an H & K Triamp Mark II, but I’ve owned one.

Will do. Thanks
