I can't take you as a serious guitarist if you encompass it into your playing.

That reminds me, I could use an anusicure. I’m tired of constantly picking and scraping

It’s the Lamb of God scrape . Once they did it all my students did . I remember the first time I had to teach it . But ya overdoing anything bad

Nothing Is Not - They all got it from Trey Azagthoth anyway.
I think like you guys said, it's the overuse from Joe and LOG that has made it annoying. Trey uses it a bit more sparingly at least.

"Songs like Ocean Planet and Flying Waves are notable for the pick scrape technique that many other bands ended up stealing. How did you come up with it?

“Somebody, somewhere is probably making that sound as we speak! I can’t believe it became a thing. I don’t think we invented it, to be honest – there’s a Morbid Angel song on Formulas Fatal To The Flesh that sounds close.

“It was born by mistake on The Link tour. We had a song called Embrace The World where I did this downwards slide on the high strings from the 12th fret, followed by a classic pick scrape. It was hard to reproduce because the song is fast.

“I was caught in a trance somewhere in Switzerland. Instead of playing it normally, I did something else, and it felt magical so I did it again and again. Funnily enough, moving the fretting hand is mostly for show – it doesn’t do shit! You can do it with just your picking hand. By the time we recorded From Mars To Sirius, the pick scrape ended up everywhere and became my thing.”

You’re totally right . But once lamb of god did it everybody added it . Every kid in lessons was like what’s this sound and had to to add it to their riffs

I had to look up to see what you're talking about (since I hardly ever listen to Gojira), and found this explanation video:

I can get why this technique would start grating real fast... like Wylde's overuse of pinch harmonics, Hammett's overuse of wah-reliance and the way Volbeat's singer sings. He's like the Michael McDonald of metal, but in a Swedish Chef way.

You seem upset. Did one of your kids just come out of the closet or something?

First of all, it's the Trey Azagthoth pick scrape - Gojira and those metalcore posers just copied him

Second of all, the natural harmonics were done by like a hundred bands before Rob copied it

Those are just the mainstream pop bands that copied the techniques

I know Gojira gets all this love but they have been so stagnant for so long, I don’t get the adulation. Mars is a great jam for sure, but I haven’t heard one album since that capture my ears. Their repetitive approach makes checking out new stuff seem meaningless. Joe has one of the better metal vocals though.

Completely off subject but Leo Kottke doesn’t get nearly enough love. Cat got groove…
