The synergy would be a compromise for sure, and that is part of the hesitation
Yes it totally is, but can slay the OG if a perfect decoupling of pre and power amp supply is to your liking (as you discussed in the latest synergy thread).
i'say cramped boards suffer more from parasitic capacitance, the turret boards with it's long wires more from parasitic inductance. pick your poison.
i guess a good designers can account for both

It isn't as much reality as eccentricity that accounts for my preference. The decoupling you spoke of was just so goddamned good that I may get past my own ideological preferences

I always think the separate pre/power always has a more immediate, punchy feel. When I go back to full heads after playing my Synergy stuff it can feel kind of slow and sloppy.

i like a good kick, but i have my days where i hate those immediate, bolt amps. i often like that give and i think it records better, too. sounds less sterile. recto in tube rectification for example. wizards sound too bolt and dry for me, in whatever clip i've heard.

Yeah, if I switch my Synergy rack from using the Mesa 2:90, to the KT88 KTG2100, or a poweramp of a head, like a 5150 or something, I can get quite varying feels when it comes to that. Using the power amp of a head instead of a rack poweramp makes it feel closer to using a full head.
