Anyone own a supersonic?

I love my prosonic so I’m considering a super sonic next. Never played one. Usually when they don’t get much attention on the board there’s a good reason why. Waste of time? I know the cleans and mid gains are good but as Ola says….will it chugg?

Man, I don't know they have been on my radar for years. I hear good stuff about them, specifically the 22 watt and the 100w. The 60w version is less revered, but I cant remember why. I like heads and Fender doesn't do many modern heads so it's appealing there.

Where I personally land on them every time I see one pop up is they are cool, sound good, but there are better options if you want clean and better options if you want to gain. Not that either are bad, and if you needed both in one head, it will do well. I'm sure I'll pick one up someday and find out.

Will it chug? I can't say for sure.

I'd say skip if if you already own a Prosonic; there's no way it's better than that

Another natural progression would be the Zinky MOFO or Blue Velvet. Zinky designed the Fender ProSonic and the 90s Tone Master head, then broke off and designed his own amps for awhile.

Still agree with the others that the ProSonic is where it’s at. A real Fender clean (early breakup) and versatile gain channels in one package, which was rare for that time period.

I would pay about zero attention to what's popular on the board, you know about that better than me. I have played several, never owned, great sounding amps with a few more options than the Prosonic (I am a fan) I think the Prosonic is a little heavier sounding but the SS probably does the mid gain thing better. Ha, you are on a roll lately, just get one coming,,

I had a combo. It shit the bed like 3 different ways - switching issues, something in the reverb driver/return, and bad solder joints. In between that it sounded OK.

It plus a Pro JR. from the same era put me off modern fenders entirely - I've never really considered buying another one. I'd kind of like one of those old '63 Vibroverb reissues, but even those scare me.

They are great but the thing is there is something with the fx loop or reverb tank or not sure what that causes cone cry on the 60 Watt models.


Tried different speakers with it and yeah never could get rid of the cone cry. I think the newer cursive versions don't have that so if you're going to check one of the 60 Watt models out look for those.

Most say the Supersonic is a good amp overall. They also say of the two a Prosonic is the superior amp. If you're looking for another flavor of high gain Fender, see if you can track down a Machete.

My problem is for all the lukewarm talk about them, they always seem to be priced proudly. I've always though if I could snag a good deal on one I'd do it just to satisfy my curiosity, but I don't want to pay a mint for a novelty.
