Anyone score a Zzounds 2203x blowout?

I got a used 2203x from Sam Ash two years ago, I think it was $1300. A guy had bought it there new, took it home, passed away, it sat in the box for a year, then his widow sold it back to Sam Ash. I don't think it had been played at all, certainly not taken out of the house. It was a totally killer amp. I never used an OD pedal with it. But it was a little redundant with my '79 2203, so I flipped it. But it was a killer amp. Tone for days.

He makes valid points. Any NEW Marshall is a POS
Pretty much...... And well the old ones arent that great either relatively speaking with what the market has to offer.

Shit ages, a lot of stuff is over hyped in general and well yeah.... IMO it's just crap when for the same money or less there are MIA/Built in USA options that cost the same or less and just sound better are more practical and better Quality........

Overpriced crap Made overseas (Marshall) vs Quality domestic goods made/Built in USA/America (Bad Cat/Friedman)....... :dunno:

Sez the guy that's never played one.
Yes.....

Overhyped JCM800s.....

Overpriced overseas Marshall crap......

They sound so good...... Not

Again You read about how good these things are and then You play them and You realize its all just a bunch of Hype and BS IMO..... Plus IMO it just makes more sense to get an amp Made/Built in America/USA for the same or less money that is better Built and sounds better too :dunno:

Tell us about the JCM800 you played. What cab and guitar? What volume level and settings?

Played em a couple times and well yeah.....

Big load of Hype..... I don't know, they just arent all that good IMO relative to other amps one can get nowadays. And again it's Made overseas, and overpriced for what it is :dunno:

I honestly feel You get a better sounds out of a higher end modeler like a Katana Artist mklll or a HeadRush unit into any random tube amp.....

For the money, there just isnt much value there IMO with a JCM800 nowadays IMO. No wonder they are offering such handsome discounts and deep sales offerings for these things given other amps available on the market :dunno:

I don't believe you have ever played one. Not every amp is everybody's favorite but your opions stated as fact comes off as asinine and ignorant. They literally have been on more albums and stages than almost any amp. I can understand preferring a channel switcher but your statements sound just plain libtarded.

Great well that was then (1986) and this is now (2026).....

And relative to pretty much any other similar option in that category for the same or less money one could have a better Quality amp, a more practical amp and well most importantly a better sounding amp.

For my money and My time...... There are just much much much better options that Will provide more fun and enjoyment overall IME and IMO.

And what has Marshall really Made lately that is to rave about anyways :dunno:

You can probably get any decent multi fx unit..... Plug into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe or Blues Deluxe..... Or any random amp really.....

Go into the JCM800 model and Marshall type amps and cab models and get an as good or better tone than a vintage JCM800..... And for the same money or less there are just way better options in the market. This or a Nux Plexi Crunch for 50 bucks into any random amp and have an as good or better tone and sounds IMO.

I don't see why this is even an argument.

Are the new marshalls shittier sounding than the old ones? Yes.

Are the new marshalls built shittier than the old ones? Also yes.

But they have some good models, and a bunch of them sound quite good. They are just run by suits who are more concerned with penny-pinching then doing justice to their legendary badge, so yeah "no shit" they aren't as good as the old ones. They still hit the bullseye on accident once in a while. Everyone seems to dig the JVMs. The Yngwie amp was absolutely incredible, I wish they did a larger release of that one. And all the big bottle reissue type amps sound great.

For example, the aforementioned 2203x is excellent, sounds excellent, and is a proven circuit that has appeared on a billion records for a reason. On a site with members as well informed as RT this shouldn't be remotely controversial.

Especially when compared to it's competitors, some people don't want the super compressed, ultra modern sound of a friedman or whatever. They are wildly different things - I honestly don't even understand why someone would say "you don't want that 2203, get yourself a BE100." That makes zero sense they are completely different animals for different sounds.
