I’m analog all the way.

I gigged with Tube amps for about 28 years before I retired from gigging.

I used them and a very humble analog pedal board, and that’s all I needed

I bought a few Digital FX pedals over the years, but they were just for home use.

I never really bonded with the digital FX processing thing.

I guess I’m just one of those old guys who yells at the clouds because they get frustrated

It seems like everyone who plays guitar now has at least some small digital abomination somewhere in their collection or chain. Fortunately I don't have the brains to operate that sort of equipment so this is mostly a thread for guys who like all analog best. Please don't waste the reader's time waxing poetic about the reasons you still keep tampax I mean modeling gear in your stash, just tell me about your killer all analog rig.

I have two pieces of gear with a digital component. My Pigtronix Echolution 2D, which really is a hybrid of an all analog filter section, with a great digital delay. It has full analog dry-through, and enough headroom for studio use so even when hit with a hot output from an FX loop it doesn't have any harsh clipping/artifacts. That said 9/10 if I am using delay it's going to be my Fulltone TTE, and the Pigtronix is for when I don't want to haul my TTE along with me.

Second is a Tonex One. I got it about a year ago for silent playing. It pretty much lives on one Hiwatt capture I use for my base dirty-clean tone, and gets used with my analog pedals as a headphone amp. I did also gel with one of the high gain Orange models, but besides those two most felt very lack luster compared to the amps they model I have had experience with. The Dual Rec and other Orange captures really did not possess any of the thickness and balls of the real amp. Overly bright, and kinda thin. Tbt after trying a few other models I was surprised how good that the one Hiwatt and one Orange capture sound. I tried tweaking some of the others, but could not get them to respond like the real amps.

While I have to say the Tonex is pretty damn good sounding on those two models, it still is just a passable imitation of the Hiwatt, and does not possess the sheer richness, authority, and balls of the real amp.

I’m pretty much analog. I go pedals to amps to a Reactive Load and then AxeFx3 for time based effects into studio monitors.

How do you fix it once the input jack gets loose? Clinch it up like Mr Tee, or just use a larger adapter?

I currently don't have any modellers. Over 10 years ago, I was trying to maybe replace these bigger and heavier amps with modelling, thinking it would be not noticeable, etc. Years later, I've tried to move away from that.

Two things changed my thinking on modelling. I was tweaking more than playing and trying to amplify this yone I wanted, resulted in frustration. I always would hear mid-focused sound and I couldn't gel with it.

Coming out of the Axe-Fx II World around 2019 or so, I got an EVH 5150-III head for the first time in years. I couldn't deny that I was hearing glorious tones. So I started back in. Then for convenience, I got my Orange Super Crush 100 transistor combo. That has served me well too but I am enjoying tube amps more.

The Synergy rig takes away ADHD and can be quiet, loud, big, small, etc. I like the trend i'm seeing with analog pedal power amps. My Laney Supergrace pedal is 60 watts and loud. If my tube amp had an issue, I could easily just plug that in to finish a show. I hope to see more stuff like this.

The Synergy + Fractal VP4 is a great compromise for these setups. The analog Synergy tubes, and then the VP4 for being transparent with the Fractal hi-fi effects.

Paul Rivera went steps closer with half B+ switch, Pentode/Triode, Slavemaster, etc.

Plug-ins are now free, easy and incredible and that’s great since most people are broke and struggling. Close enough for literally rock n roll.

I live in an appartment and only have SLO-100 and a 4x12 and I am not even remotely in a position to buy something. Even if I buy something, I pass on 10 affordable things to get something substantial usually. Poor man economy.

Plugins and other software is the way. Worst case of povetry one can sail under the black flag. Nearly all of Neural DSP plugins are hacked already afaik.

i’m compelled to track new tech products and developments—i’ve owned and played through my iphone, ipad, macbook, POD bean, axe ultra & II, katana, tonex…here are a smattering of apps on my phone i’ve dabbled with over the years:

but none are nearly as fun, dynamic, inspiring or as satisfying as a real tube amp and classic pedals.

For main core tone, full analog amps all the way.
For effects, anything that sounds good and has a good UI can work; I for instance love late 70's to early 90's classic rack effects, most have a digital section BUT the greats still had proper good analog I/O stages.
