One can only hope for a resurgence......but tbh I'd be happy for ANY rock at all to come back.

Sadly, I don't think it will happen. Anything that's cool with the 40+ crowd will not be cool with millenials and zoomers.
Okay, here’s my rant. I’m just going to put it all out there how I feel. I’ll go a step further. Anything perceived as “white” and “male”, or as portraying said demographic in a positive light will simply not be promoted in today’s mainstream, and will never be allowed to enjoy mainstream success, or serve as the dominant culture ever again. The era of white-male machismo like that of older hard rock music is over, and isn’t coming back. One must understand that the reason for the shitscape of a music industry today is not because what is promoted today is better music, or that people don’t like rock, but because there is a blatantly anti-white marxist cultural critique on every aspect of western society today, and those in charge of the music industry are no different than those im charge of colleges and our government. The music sold to the masses by the mainstream today and forevermore will reflect “diversity”, if not actively degrade and demoralize the aforementioned demographic. “Diversity” today means non-white. So you’ll either get hyper-negro culture spewed everywhere (i.e. thug rap/r&b), or weirdo LBGT-promoting, or “wahmen”-supporting music (Gaga/Swift/Perry). The only white men allowed to grace the mainstream radio or the stage at the Grammy’s are faggy, effeminate, shit-lib white cucks who pander to “diversity” (Adam Levine/Ed Sheeran/etc.)

I’m a millennial who is completely lost and trapped in my generation. I cannot fucking stand the culture of my generation, and I’m not even remotely open to “giving it a chance”. I don’t resonate with black culture, I’m sorry. Rap is like my kryptonite. It just clashes with my soul every time I hear it. Everything out today is just the antithesis of what I love in music. I love the riffy, groovin, guitar-heavy hard rock of the 80s. Today’s popular music is centered around blacks, gays, and women. You lose IQ points listening to rap, and testosterone listening to pop.

and I’m not for a second going to apologize for saying anything I just said. I stand by all of it to the moon and back. I refuse to do the “I’m not racist, but...”/“I’m not sexist, but...”/“I’m not homophobic, but...” shtick. I don’t gaf what anyone thinks. I’m more than happy being perceived as all of the above. Fuck you!

That’s my rant!
  at least you own it, I'll give that to you. :scared:

I wouldn't stress too much about the modern music scene, or world in general.

The 80's are legendary, always have been. Buy more crackle finishes, I've always found life seems better that way.
+1

And kind of in the same vane as what you were saying above too is that the music industry kind of killed hair bands/metal. The deconstruction. The music biz found a great way to sell records and they started to copy cat. I'm not going to name names because I too liked a lot of those copies. When I was young, I never thought this was going to end. I just figured 'this is rock music and this is the music I like and it will last forever'. How naive.

But we have to admit. By the time Appetite for Destruction came around you could sense there was change in the air. The big hair and neon tights was getting old - despite the great guitar riffs.

Maddnotez - Skid Row was def part of the 80's hair metal thing even though they were a bit late to the party. I think 80's doesn't have to mean strictly in that decade. Slave to the Grind was '91 or '92. Subhuman Race was '95 but by then - people had moved on. Big hair. Big riffs. Big song writing but most importantly - Big Ballads. Girls went nuts man.

PS: I'm a pretty big fan of grunge, thrash, nu-metal, metalcore, etc but straight up new rock and roll is hard to find. Wolfmother is a good example but they are more '70s based I say.

Hey man, I feel you on the rap and a lot of the music today. But there has always been shit music. In my youth we had Disco. It was the end of music. But then one day...it was gone.

Yep, exactly. I grew up in the 70s and every decade is like this. It goes in waves. Every time someone says "rock is dead!", I just laugh my ass off knowing they are f'ing clueless.

In the early 70s, everyone said rock was dead as yacht rock was gaining momentum. But you had KISS, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, etc., etc.

Then the 70s came to an end and rock died again...with disco. But then Maiden, Priest, and others hit the stage and before you knew it, the 80s metal scene hit and went on until the late 80s, early 90s.

Then in the early 90s, Grunge came and everyone said rock was dead again. But then you got Pantera, Static-X, Slipknot, etc.

In the 2000s, you had System of a Down, Lamb of God, etc. I could go on and on. The point is, there will always be rockers that balance things out again. I think it is good when things get "poppy" or rock disappears because people start missing it and then it comes back with a vengeance. Look at how many guitars are sold each year. Rock and Metal are not going anywhere.

Nice rant, BigGuitars, especially from a millennial.

Gives we old fogies hope, man.

Well Nirvana/Grunge then. Rock started to dwindle in the 90`s unless you consider grunge rock?
Well... "grunge" is media term, so there's that. If you don't think this is rock, I'd like to know what you consider, rock?

MLB had good songs, became pearl jam minus Andrew wood

my son is 17 and while I don't think he could articulate it as well as you did, this pretty much sums up how he feels. He's always saying to me "I wish I had been born in the 60 or 70's cause my generations sux, their all a bunch of touchy-feely pussies"

as a caveat to this thread how bout posting some newer bands that still bring the 80's vibe?
I'll go first

Battle Beast FTW.

It really does amaze me that some kids are still able to see through the bullshit PC brow-beating they receive throughout school and college these days.

Good on him, mate.

There is no "rock" music today like a Bon Jovi, Boston, Journey, etc that appeals to the mass audience and that is kind of an issue to me. There are a billion and one "metal" (I guess you can call them) metal bands out there though.... and 99.9 percent of them suck in my opinion. Too much screaming/growling vocals, detuned guitars, and way too over produced/digital sounding music that lacks any warmth or differentiating. Everything sounds like it was produced and engineered by the same couple of guys. Thanks Pro Tools. Another reason the "new 80's) isn't coming.... No MTV!

Am I an old guy that is stuck in my ways, probably. I just think a metal band should have a bunch of long haired, beer drinking, leather wearing, women chasing dudes

Seriously though. I do not see the next Ronnie James Dio, Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest coming along anytime soon.

This is exactly what we should be doing more of.

So here's a few different flavors of 80's retro:

Crazy Lixx, this is one of their older songs, but they are very active, last album came out last year:

This one is a little older, 2013, De La Cruz. Wish they had lasted longer.

I know we've got some Municipal Waste fans around here, or used to anyways. These guys are going strong still.

Here's Striker, they fly the flag well I think:

I could post a bazillion more...

When I look for new (or "newish", last decade or so), I never come up short on finding bands nailing those classic 80's sounds. I like supporting these types of bands. Life is still really fun that way.

The 50's was a great era for rock music.
The 70's, 80's, 90's were good.
The 00's was the decade of the Foo Fighters, who IMO suck. Every FF composition qualifies as a theme song for the ABC after-school special.
The 10's are void. If there were any good rock bands in the 2010's, I'm unaware of them.
The 20's will be a repeat of the 10's... with increased social engineering tactics. i.e. Demoralization.

Here's a 2010's pop song that sounds cool. IMO, they should have brought the B3 organ forward in the mix. I would have also used a Gretsch Duo Jet for the guitar tracks.
