I haven't been able to read that article, due to a paywall, but I suspect it's b.s. America used to have the cheapest goods and pay the highest wages in the world. You used to be able to buy pretty much anything you needed for your home, and it was made here. Deflation is not a bad thing, although it does sometimes cause pain for a percentage of the people. The people who bought homes in 2006 for top dollar, they felt the pain of that deflation as their home lost a lot of value. On another side, cell phones are a lot cheaper these days than they were in 1992. They are a million times better as well. Things can and will get cheaper in the free market. Houses are not in a free market, and that's why they are so expensive. Same with health care as you mentioned. When things go on sale, it's the best thing for the majority.
