Flock camera protest in Fargo ends abruptly after fights break out

FARGO — A protest at a busy Fargo intersection meant to highlight concerns about the use of cameras that record license plates and other information ended abruptly after tensions flared among some of those attending.
Fights broke out between people, all opposing Flock cameras but with seemingly different political viewpoints.

Lawrence Mihu III, of Fargo, was among those caught up in the altercations.
“This is just the actions of a few individuals, but I don’t condone the actions against any protesters whatsoever,” he told The Forum, his elbows bloodied and shirt wet after being pepper sprayed.

The protest and community car meet was advertised as a peaceful gathering, happening on the southeast corner of 13th Avenue South and 45th Street on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Put on by groups calling themselves Midnight Mafia Fargo and 701’s Most Wanted, the event that got underway shortly after 4 p.m. grew heated less than 40 minutes later and ended with punches being thrown, leaving several people bloodied.
