As much as I hate "beating a dead horse" threads

Cables make a huge difference. Those who say otherwise are deaf or ignorant.

I like cable that restores all of the high end back to my tone. I use colossal cable because I like the conductive properties of silver cable for the crisp high end and added (revealed) harmonics.

For some amps, this is exactly what I want to do. But, for this particular amp, I am knocking it back down a few notches and finding the cheaper crap works better. Weird stuff huh?

Hendrix and Stevie had the same approach with that cheezy ass curly cable. It's a synergy thing you're talking.

Had the same experience--was putting together a rack rig. Used whatever patch cables were handy--rig sounded OK. As I upgraded the patch cables one by one over time, the sound improved dramatically.

Steve,

Monsters are Horribly Bright...

I really love the Cheaper Road Hog Cables, that Nick sells...

They Sound MEATY, and Full... More Solid less Brittle. I use them for eveything.

Could split the difference and go with Mogami. There you go back to where you started.. again.

Glad yer stoked on the rekindled love affair of the Monsters. Sometimes cheap is good, just like 'quick and dirty'

I went with a full complement of Vovox not that long ago - things definitely opened everything up on either side of the spectrum. But are they better or worse than my Neutrik cable I've be using since the late 80's? Not really. Just different.

Peace,
V.

As long as you have the preamp tube covers off, any cheap cable sounds great. Really.

I find also, that if I not only leave the preamp tube covers off, but go ahead and leave the back cover off of the amp all together, that makes it sound better :D

I've actually got a load of Road Hog cables. They are big and indestructible. Will dig them out have and try them out. Bought them several years ago from Tour Supply and forgot all about them.

Man, is the horse really dead? This is a gear board after all. Is there anything between your hands and your ears that DOESN'T make a difference? The whole board is a dead horse if so.

The continued beating the dead horse type of thread usually involves the user not using that search button to your top right to learn more about your favorite OD pedal, delay pedal, cable, PU, etc. Chances are, it has been discussed at length.

Then, the thread usually gets derailed, and we talk about boobs, shave clams, Barzinni, CCV's, Julio's Lawnmower Mods, Dano's shorts, Axe FX or whatever other stuff needs talking about

I noticed that years ago when re-doing my pedal board with George L's. I use George L's for effects and instrument and Monster Cable from heads to cabs.

I personally LOVE darker amps, and so Monster fits well with my Twin Jet. Helps get rid of some of the glassiness of the KT88's.

Interesting how people hear things differently...you're the first person that I've ever heard say that.
Personally I've found Monsters to attenuate the highs while promoting a strong midrange. I like them tonally but I've had bad luck with reliability.
