Have you ever been completely happy with your gear? Like, genuinely thought to yourself, “I have everything I need”?

I’m at this bizarre place right now where I look at the gear I have and honestly don’t feel like I need anything else to play whatever I want.

I have eight guitars that can take me anywhere from classic rock to blistering metal. Between my Friedman BE-50 and EVH Stealth 100, there really aren’t any tones I love that I can’t cover. Add the Kemper and Quad Cortex into the mix, and I basically have a million other tones at my fingertips.

Hell, since I got the BE-50, I haven’t even plugged in my EVH or my Jubilee. LOL!

All of my guitars are set up exactly the way I like them. I can grab any one of them, plug in, play for hours, and be completely happy.

I think sometimes we get so caught up in “What’s next?”—the next guitar, amp, pedal, pickup, or piece of gear—that we forget to stop and enjoy what we already have.

Right now, I’m just really appreciative and grateful for what I have. Instead of wondering what’s next, I think I’m going to spend some time enjoying what’s already here.

Sounds like you have most of the bases covered. I have somewhat realised that I am also in a similar boat. I have three amps, two cabs and two guitars. However, I usually only play my main amp, my main superstrat partscaster, with a delay , reverb in the loop of a Powerstation and a wah, tube driver and phase 90 upfront. Although I would like a few more pedals and a new amp, I think I am more likely to keep to selling an amp before buying.

I'm currently working on a partscaster that I'm doing an acrylic pour finish on that I'm doing Tyler-esque Huff wiring on with a Gotoh floyd.

The back is painted and currently drying, will likely do the front this coming weekend.

For the OP don't get me wrong I have a ton of stuff and appreciate and play what I have. I've also got a bunch of projects in the works building gear. I'm also on the list for one of the Morin preamp clones lol

I already added a blem to the back since the picture when I misjudged where the battery compartment was under the paint. Nothing major just enough I'll know it's there.

To be honest, yes. My Morris UK 67 is the sound in my head. I don't need anything else. I have some things I'd like to sort of try/bucket list items to check off, but the sound is complete.

Need is a decent guitar and a decent amp. I haven't needed since the 90's.

Want is a whole other ball of wax. I'm always looking for that subtle improvement or extra edge.

My older brother came to my place the other day and we were hanging out in my office/music room. He looked around while we were talking and then said "I'm proud of you."

We were very very poor kids raised in some pretty dire circumstances. To see where we both have made it today is cool. I never really thought about my gear also representing that but it surely does.

Now, my financial situation is not amazing by any means but the gear I have been able to work toward/build/acquire since I started playing around 12/13 is kinda wild.


I did a lot more musically with a lot less than I have now. To say I am happy with my gear is an understatement - I feel damn well blessed!!!

Yeah, I've been there for about 15 years or so now with my guitars and amps. I've cycled just about everything that I think I would like over the last many years and I've harpooned all my white whales so to speak.

I know what I like and am happy with what I have. Occasionally something piques my interest and I go check it out and if I like it, it stays, if not... it goes or I just don't buy it.

My latest edition is an 2023 EVH Wolfgang and it's really a nice guitar for the money, I actually was surprised I liked it.

When you attain the sound in your head and get complete satisfaction while you are playing is when you know you are done. That doesn't mean you can appreciate other avenues of amps or guitars but I fully understand your statement.

Amp wise, yes. I've been that way since '08. Pretty much the same with guitars as well.

I've had alot of flux in rack gear and pedals as I de-racked and went full floor board about 10 years ago during that time but the big stuff, been content for a long time but even that has slowed own recently as my board is everything I want.

Really what I buy is to have fun, not need. I've been through several amps the last few years like the EVH Stealth, Mezzabarba Trinity and the Engl Artist but it was not to replace as I'm not moving away from my main amp. Same with guitars, I have 4 that I will not part with as I always generally stay with those. In fact I fixing to clean some guitars out as they're just sitting in cases and I don't like clutter. I'm not a collector.

Honestly only thing on my radar is a Ground Zero one day and I'd like to give that Orange OR 60 a go but again, just for fun.

I'm in the same place. I have some amps and guitars that I'm very happy with. I have a range of tones covered quite nicely. I still look at stuff for sale, but I haven't bought anything in a while now, and unless something comes along at an impossible-to-refuse price, I can't see myself buying anything.

There was a guy selling a ENGL Fireball 60 locally for $850 CDN recently. That's about $614 US. I was somewhat tempted, but still passed on it.

I have never been happier than my current Mesa Mark VII 1/2 stack with Boss GT-1000 for effects and midi switching, and a few dirt pedals to add in front. And that cheap little fucking Soran dual stomp into 2 Alto TSA12 is the only modeler Ive tried that sounds and feels like a well recorded amp. I especially enjoy the MarkIV, Splawn and JTM45 models. I have never tried the latest AXE FX or Kemper or any other high dollar modeler as I just don't think modeling should cost as much as a good tube rig and we are finally getting there.

I'm really settled with what I have. I have to use it live regularly and if it is comfortable and reliable and most of all it all sounds great! Took me a long while and lots of buying, selling, trading to get to this point but it was all worth it.
