At the end of the day what amp could you live with?

My fortin cali.
Clean Plexi to all out nuclear meltdown.

If I had to choose one amp to be happy with for the rest of my life, then probably a 100w Marshall of some sort.

Twin and some pedals.....

I would agree with this. I do love my PT100 over everything, but I feel if there were no boutique amps or could not afford one a Twin and some pedals would be the way. There are so many really good dirt pedals out there and the cleans from the twin are pretty much the best.

have you tried the Riot with the PT100 yet? Mark Day's clips have been pretty amazing.

I think the intent of this post is getting off-point. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) the spirit of the question was, "if it all went south, and you had to sell off all your prized gear, what amp could you still afford, gig with, and be satisfied tone-wise?" I think picking a boutique or top-of-the-line amp isn't "getting by with" anything.

Soooo... My answer would be the Jet City JCA100H. Even though it's only two-channel, that is a lot of amp that can be had for $400 in good used shape, or $599 new. Of course, then you need a cab. Other than that, I'd say a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade 100c. One-stop shopping and gig-ready with zero pedals.

Cheers,

In that case, my JVM410H.

Gorilla practice amp with 8" speaker and a DOD overdrive pedal

a hughes and kettner statesman =0

h&k go for so cheap second hand it's crazy, solid amps too

Yeah, maybe I misunderstood the OP's intent, but I read a "Guitar Center" rig, or rig on a budget.

If you follow my posts over the past 6 to 7 years you will see that my posts have transitioned from amps to guitars about 12 months ago. Why? That's when I received my Fortin Cali modded JCM800. I would love to own another Mark IV someday but the Cali mod gives me everything I loved about the Mark series while adding the Marshall qualities it lacked. Why anyone would sell it is beyond me. IMO, mine sounds awesome! It is going back to Mike to add a foot switchable clean channel and I'm done. I would love to add a Les Paul or Tele style guitar to my stable. Best sounding low volume tube amp I ever owned. The Mark IV sounded tremendous at low volume too. Mesa makes killer amps overall!

Metropoulous 12000 Series Marshall Plexi clone and Mojave 4x12 w/G12H30s

I'd miss my higher gainers once in awhile though...

Not really an answer to the question but the one amp that people seem to constantly say they miss the charm of and can't get anywhere else is .. the 5150.

I'm selling mine, so don't think this is biased, just an observation.

If I had to live with one amp for the rest of my life.... Mesa Mark IV. Hands down.

sloclone I build. Nice clean to all out 80's distortion.

5150 III

I have lived with it now for 3.5 years as my main amp and still love it. I've owned many amps before the EVH but all of them always seemed to lack a feature or a tone. I haven't heard another amp yet that blows me away enough to make me want to ditch it. Despite what some say, I think its one of the most versatile high gain amps.
