AXE-FX II V3 Firmware....Wow!

Just did a quick clip of my AXE-FX 2 (Freidman HBE Model) with a Carvin Power amp recorded live with a Zoom Q3 playing some Jake E Lee Badlands Riffs....clip is in my sig.

Huh. For me, it has always been a matter of what feels good first, sounds good second. Of course, both need to be there for something to be a "keeper." But, if it does not feel good, I do not care how it sounds. (no, I do not dismiss based upon first impressions; I always give gear time. Playing guitar the first time was awkward and uncomfortable at first ;) )

Apply this to the Axe: "Does it sound and/or feel like a tube amp?" Uh.. I do not care! Does it feel good playing it? Previously, when I tried an Ultra, it did not feel "good enough," nor did it "sound good enough" (for me). Close? Really close? Sure. I have heard clips of the AFII that seem to have resolved certain of the "sounds good to me" aspects, so it will be a matter of "feel" for me. If I had a stable of tube amps, and the means to record them as I please, and use live, would I sell them if the AFII is all I desire? Hell no!!! The AFII is, simply and completely, just another implement to enable artistic expression.

Even if the Axe could sound and feel exactly like a tube amp (would I only even want JUST tube amps?), I am not sure.. strike that.. I do not believe I could ever psychologically treat it as "exactly the same." As such, for me, it is utterly and completely unreasonable to even consider such a comparison in a strict "either/or, equal to" consideration. If I want a Plexi sound, and no Plexi is available, I would not expect a "Plexi patch" in the AFII with me playing to sound identical, just as I would not expect an H3000 inspired patch to sound identical to the H3000 patch. SImilar? Possibly.

These types of threads often seem to end with the "you can't afford it jealousy" defense.

I simply think the haters can't afford to have 1 or 2 great tube amps and also own the awesome Axe2. So they whine like bitches!!

I own some great tube amps and i also own the great Axe-Fx II

I have had my amps modded and they are great, and Cliff mods my Axe Fx for me.

It's not an either or thing people. I own some of the best amps and also the best modeler. Winning!!

Kind of a douche bag way of saying something if you ask me.
Hell, I don't think it has anything to do with "being able" to afford anything. More so having to do with if it works for someone.
I have never played the new AssFX 2 yet, but I will. But I can tell you from the stand point of playing the Ultra for 2 weeks straight in my studio, it left me very shocked.
It sounded like crap, felt like crap, but did have decent effects. I'll stick with a good preamp and one of my eventides any day.
I even liked my HD500 better as far as feel and tone goes.
I'll wait to play one in person before I pass my judgment on it. The only clips I have heard of it that sound great are the ones Pete Thorn did.
But I am going to say that the fact that he's a great player, has an amazing recording setup and knows what he's doing in the studio plays more of a role in the sounds than the actual unit does.
If he plugs into an onion bagel with a french fry, it will sound good. So you have to take everything with a grain of salt.
But as far as your dick bag comment goes, I think you are way off base.
I may buy one just to use as a drink coaster

Your arguement would make sense on HCAF but not here at amp flipper central.

since you are a cameron guy in your opinion did the Cameron CCV get closer???

I believe that Cliff modeled one of the newer CCV's, which I have not yet played. Mine is an older CCV, so I can only tell you that it's in the ballpark with my older one(which is not the amp that he modeled). So I have no idea how it compares to the new CCV.

I actually really liked the CCV Model in the V2 firmware with the saturation switch on. The CCV in V3 Firmware sounds great, but has a little less gain to my ear.

It funny that CCV clip in your sig now actually sounds similar to the HBE might be the recording ..but actually the Axe fx recording was similar IMO

Ultra's have gone the way of the dodo bird.
Thats really sad if true... I am sure Ultra owners out there will not be happy.

Yeah, imagine the anger about a device that's been around for several years and just now they're stopping further development. ;)
