I am intrigued by tonematch, though for probably different reasons for your normal player chasing a bands sound and tone. Not trying to find fault with it, but the nerd in me is trying to understand all that is happening, and possible and its limitations as well

That Tone Match just wasn't very good. You have heard much more impressive results than that for sure. If Zentman had put some time in to get close to your tone before doing the Match, then it would be pretty much spot on!

It's just like the many profiles done by the Kemper that are just not very good. It happens a lot as you know.

its honestly hard to get an idea just how well tone match is, I have heard lots of clips, and most of them are based off of brittle and slightly offensive high end youtube clips and what not, so I am not sure just how well tonematch does at this point. EQ Match is one thing, but to get a tone matched sound that sounds organic and breathable and in room, that is what I want to hear. if you have an axe FX II, maybe you can try to tone match my file and get a better result??

I really want to be impressed. I think its easier to match sounds that sound like they are modellers from the getco. I happen to like my tonematch challenge, as its organic like the real amp is. I posted a youtube video to see how well axe II matched the tone but was told it couldn't happen unless someone had a seven string cause it would mess up the match if using just a regular 6. are there really that many restrictions such as matching guitar for guitar to get the same sound? help me understand

even in this video , its hard to get a great idea of the sound cause it sounds like its mostly camrera mic? but even then there is a small difference no?

This guy Tone Matched his Peavey 6505

He is playing thru a stock Cab IR from the Axe-II. Now imagine if he used IR capture in the Axe to shoot an IR of his actual cab, and then played thru that. It would be even better.

Whatever "Magic" you think you hear from the Kemper is the result of amp/cab being "EQ profiled" as one unit. Amp with baked in cab captured properly, essentially takes the vast majority of user error/frustration out of the picture.

I like that clip alot, can you try matching my clip? Its hard to hear it against the source amp, and since I am familiar with my amp in this clip

has anyone who owns both a kemper and axe 2 try profiling an axe fx tone match preset? would the world explode if such a thing happened?

it might create a black hole........

I would think it is possible, I know someone posted the first 40 Axe II presets or something of the like and said they were pretty much the same. I am still waiting for someone to tone match my clip posted to see if the reverse is possible...

What amp is in your clip?
I have band practice with a new drummer tomorrow but if I get some time afterwards Ill give it a shot.

That is pretty sweet. My other guitarist just upgraded and our fear was matching the levels on his presets.

To be honest all of the examples of Tone Matching that I have heard sound like shit... I haven't heard a single clip that "Wow'd" me, like TONS of Kemper clips have...

I even had a chance to pick up an Axe-II on the cheap last month....I had to sell it for medical bills, but I had zero intentions of keeping it after having owned a Kemper... as soon as the Kemper comes out in a rack version, and it's interface isn't as clunky and all the features work, I'll probably never own another piece of gear...

I have heard a few good examples, specially in the constraints that the axe does best... but nothing that has consistantly wowed me, and most of the tone matching, while close, is not exact, and only is getting closer with more post tweaking. Imagine that, more tweaking in the axe fx   I kid... Not to mention it seems like one needs to know the guitar used, amp settings, amp used etc. I am sure some sounds will be easier to get then others.

they def improved the modelling though,

Is the Kemper able to capture MP3s, etc. or just amp tone matching? I haven't heard many Tone Matching clips with the Axe-FX II where people were using an actual amp. Most of them are using the tones from a recording on YouTube, etc.

I wonder how well it could do Dino's demanufacture tone? one of my top 5 tones of all time...

You have instantly become one of my best friends on this board..... :inlove:

I chased that tone for years.....

LOL

cheers buddy, its definitely one of my holy grails of tone...

I was thinking the beginning of Body Hammer would be good for a tonematch, but that synth thing in the background might screw it up.

Yeah but to me that's one of Dino's raunchier/rawer tracks......but yeah I guess you gotta have guitar only it sounds....

No Kemper is just an amp an cab matching thing. It doesn't have the capability to eq match like fractal does. But then again there are plug ins that do that so its possible To do it outside of Kemper if one really wants to.

Neat TI have it in the box though. It seems like most tone matched clips have a bit more high end then the original?

I think you'll see more and more REALLY good clips as people get a better handle on it, but I agree that it seems to get something dead on will take more tweaking.

The cool thing (to me) is that we have no idea where people will take this...I think some creative types out there are probably experimenting with some really off the wall shit, as we type

Yeah there are already some cool ideas and things being posted. Dithery sound like the source exactly? No. But that doesn't completely matter as long as the end result is neat and musical
