I wonder how well it could do Dino's demanufacture tone? one of my top 5 tones of all time...
I was trying to find some guitar tracks from Demanufacture the other day for tone matching, but couldn't come up with anything.

If you could just pull the drums out of the song "Demanufacture" or "Self Bias Resistor" right at the beginning of either you would have a great sample..
How can I do that? I think those both have bass too, but on that album it's barely audible anyway.
Brujeria - Raza Odiada has a clean guitar spot, but that album has more lower mids than Demanufacture. Might be worth an experiment though :)

Here's my TM attempt at Bark At The Moon. First part is the original isolated guitar recording them a short stop them me playing a tone match preset on the AxeFx2.

def in the ballpark, not exact. your clip has too much gain and eq is still a bit different but in the ball park for sure...

can you try and tone match this??
http://www.energiestudios.com/Files/tonematch.wav

Pretty hard to be exact, different recording techniques, track placement modulation, etc.
My clips always have too much gain.

What amp in your clip so I have a starting point?

Hmm, Axe doesn't have that as a starting point but I'll try. Are you in Standard tuning? 440hz?

Mark

Yes standard. Try a 5150 axe has that right? Or just pick an amp that sounds close no? Slo. Diezel whatever u have in there.

Does anyone see the obvious difference here? The Kemper is profiling a an amp. All of these clips of the AXE doing TM are done from an MP3 or WAV or Youtube. Even for Audioholics request to TM his amp clip is a weak starting point. He profiled the real thing, not an audio file that by nature is nothing close to the real hardware. Then to hear that it's different...?!? Uh, its a WAV. This is comparing apples to oranges. For this to be a realistic demonstration of tone matching, let's have someone tone match a real 5153 on the AXE and then compare.

The TM feature is very cool. But, like anything....you get out of it what you put in.

Yeah but that was all the hype of tone match no? To be able to perfectly copy a recorded sound simply by sending audio into your box. The whole idea is for fractal to hear an audio file, not actually profile, and be able to match any recording by eq adjusting its internal eq shape

I don't think Cliff or any one from Fractal said the word "perfectly". If they did I would like to see that quote :)
I don't think I will go down this road. No matter how close I get, there is no way that it's going to make you happy with it. I can get it pretty close but it's missing that half cocked way tone in the original clip. I'm able to simulate that part with a parametric EQ block, but it's certainly not going to make you go "yeah that's it"......It would make a lot of people think it's pretty close.

I think Tone Match is a pretty cool feature added to a box that I already own and very pleased with. I got the AxeFx before this was a feature. The fact that features are added for free is very cool.

I don't want to get into a Kemper vs. AxeFx pissing match. They are two different animals. I know nothing about the Kemper other than it profiles amps. I don't even know if it has onboard effects or if that is just an after thought with a few basic things like the Line 6 products. The high quality vast library of FX within the AxeFx are a huge draw for me. If the Kemper doesn't have the same or better FX I wouldn't even be remotely interested in it, not that it isn't a good product, just not a product that would fit my needs.

Now I have a question, can you profile the BATM track with the Kemper and record a clip? I ask because I really know nothing about the Kemper, I'd be curious to know if it can do that type of thing.

Mark I will pm u more info. This is the second file that I posted and asked for fractal peeps to try ad tone match. The first was said it couldn't be done because I used a seven string. And this file. I genuinely wanted to hear tone matchings capabilities with a sound i am very familair with. I used TO have an axe and my axe 2 coupon has arrived. I am a guy who will use what's best. This half cocked wha sound as u referred to it actually sounds pretty great in a mix and sounds exactly as my micd Amp did.

Hey Audioholic, any chance you could record something you'd like to see Tone Matched, but simultaneously record a DI track? Then I will see about reamping through the Axe FX and matching that way. For whatever reason that posted wav won't download or stream for me.

Huge fan of half-cocked wah sound. I used a PQ3 for years, now I have a Boss PQ4 and a Koko Boost in my tube amp rig. I didn't mean it as a slight to you, I only meant that the 5150 sim in the AxeFx doesn't have that characteristic. I think the sound file you provided sounds great :)

Here is my attempt, this is my 3rd time trying the TM stuff so I honestly dont really know what im doing with it yet.
This was done in like 5 minutes tops......First time the riff is played is yours second time is mine.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4459808/audioTM.wav

Nice job!

this is the best so far, and very very close. some minor differences in breakup and openness, but very very minor. good job.

Thanks!
I thought it was pretty close for the amount of time I put into it.
To me there is something in the lowmids-mids that is a little off but a pretty good starting point.

Yeah yours is very close though. Most fractal clips sound more closed and not as open as I like, I am very familiar with this clip so wanted to hear how well tone match can get to it

Several attempts were all over the map but yours got really really close! Thanks for the example

The Axe does sound a bit bassier and a bit more closed off. But damn, that is good. A couple of more tweaks and you're going to need to profile his model. Seriously though, this is starting to get good and it's only the beginning...again.
