AxeFx insanity....

While I'm sure these sound great, they are not for me. When I do get time to play after the job and kid duties are fulfilled, I just want to play and not scroll through LCD menus. I don't think I'll ever buy one because I know I would sit and tweak for hours instead of actually playing. I can see how it really appeals to some people though especially professionals.

Well, i can't wait for my Boogie Mark V to show up. After that i may just save up for an Ax-Fx. I really don't feel like buying multiple amps so if it can get me at least 90% close to a lot of amps out there I'll be happy. PLus, with all it's effects it will save me money in the long run so i won't be dropping 100 bucks 100 bucks there on dirt boxes.

Now, let's just see if any other company steps up and challenges Fractal.

+1

Totally with you Dan. I'm sure the Mark V will meet my needs. I would like to try an Axe-FX someday soon.

We haven't done this in a while...a golden eared A/B...
Here we go, I was working on a horn player's stuff, here's a file with just the guitar where it doubles the horn, one is my 70s 50 watt JMP into the bright input, the other the Axe on the Plexi 1 setting...tell me which one is which...

The difference I hear in EQ and compression is pretty much what I hear when I compare my 50 to my 100 watt JMP. But I didn't have the 100 at home.

#1 is the AxeFx
#2 is the real amp

I like #2 better. I'll say #1 is the JMP, it's a little bright and i hear some noise at the start and the Ax has a built in gate.

Definantly liked 2 better.

Here's what I hear...1 has more top and less compression. 2 is more refined sounding, pretty mcuh exactly what I'd expect, 2 is sounding like a nicely made up version of a JMP, whereas 1 sounds like the usual raw in your face amp.

Now here's the wrinkle, 1 is the Axe, dialed so it sounds what I hear from my JMP on stage, and 2 is a compressing 50 watt JMP miked with a 906.
I guess my point is that I can get a bigger change in the twist of a knob on my mixere then by switching between amp and Axe.

Got it wrong....................................I'm blaming the compression for my golfer's excuse DeJour.

Well i got here to late to guess which amp was what but Ive heard JMP's sound exactly how you dialed it in with the axe-fx, so I'll continue to say what Ive been saying for a while now. If you know what makes your sound tick, you can get it with the axe-fx and the freaking thing keeps getting better. Im really happy with mine and I haven't raved about it much on the forums because i didn't want to get on the fan boi list although I am bigtime :hys:

No matter...I reckon my point is that the Axe is at the point where I can work unimpeded and not miss the amp.

Yeah well get this shit...went to my weekly jam sesssion with the new yngwie clone but still have the stock guard in place and FUCKING LOVED IT!!!!!!! It took od1 orange of the JVM and made it into an un-compressed fucking monster. HAd the vibe in front playing Day of the Eagle and man just ripping, told the guys that I may be unloading some superstrats as I have found out at last what some have been preaching for years.

I still dig me some 4 gain stage firebreather but man marshalls and single coils fucking own.

I think what you experienced is the guitar player version of a Bar Mitzvah. You're a man now!

I'm sure you could get it closer if you wanted. That would be close enough for me to enjoy the tones without having to shell out $2000 for a different amp every few months.

Actually you're looking at this the other way around. The clip with the Axe is what it's supposed to sound like, the second clip is more compressed, less open, with less top. For what I want I'd have to clean it up a bit and add top.

I'm convinced and my hand is thrown in to make this happen now

I really dont blame ya, I am done with amps and may kill the MK IV and PODXT Pro to score one.

Some Marshalls and the axe would do me just fine right now

I do need me to build my Summer's tele and another yngwie clone though, maybe scalloping the Charvel as well.

Saw it coming!
What's scary is that he's selling it at a really good price, yet it's higher then what my XTC 212 combo cost street price once upon a time. :)
