Hi Ed and Ron, I will have a fairly complex rig. But for starters I try and add a piece at a time. That way I can isolate problems much easier. The problem I have is this:
I started with just my SLO and Surf Box together. They worked great both with the Surf Box in front of, and in the loop of, the SLO. Because I will add a second and a third amp to the rig soon, I need to have the Surf Box in a looper so that any of the 3 amps can be run with it.

So, next step was to try and run the Surf Box and SLO with the RG16. Didn't matter how I ran it, and I used 2 different iso boxes (separately and at the same time in every configuration I could think of), just couldn't keep it from humming very loudly. Tried different cables, loop channels, and ground lifts - but not the ground on the RG. Didn't know it had one.

I am using a power regulator and a conditioner as well.

I will keep playing with it. Been gigging a lot so haven't had time to mess around with it. Cool thing about that is I have been playing without fx and it has taught me a lot. When I add them back in it will be much more judiciously. Also, makes me appreciate the AXE FX that much more. All in one, no ground issues.
If the lifting ground on the rjm doesn't help. Unsolder the shield on one end of the cable connecting the Surf Box to it.

Are you sure about the Switchblade being 100% analog ? I don't believe they are..but maybe I am wrong.

FWIW I have a GL sitting in my rack ..unused for a long time, but I love the thing....I can't get myself to sell it even though I might not use it any more.

I have never noticed any tone suckage while using it...but you are limited with the kind of signals you can hit it with.

For example...my PQ3 would clip the inputs (using it in a Stryper fashion with mids cranked and the preamp gain bumped up a little) so I had to knock it down 6dB in the menu to use it...kind of defeats the purpose of the PQ3 a little.

I think something like a Zvex SHO or similar device would give you the same trouble.

Edit...here is the text in the manual about what I am talking about.

"In addition you may turn on an input trim for each input individually, under
menu control, which will add an additional 6dB of headroom at the input to allow connection of higher level equipment
without overloading the input stage."

From the Sound Sculpture site:

Q: Does the Switchblade operate in the analog or digital domain?

A: The Switchblade is an ALL ANALOG audio router. It is digitally controlled, but the audio path is 100% analog (just like YOU and your GUITAR!)

Thanks Ed, I have read about that, but man I'm always scared to do stuff like that. I always think I'll blow myself up. LOL

I'll try that Ron. Might be a while since I have to open it up. But I will give it a shot.

Good ideas. I really like the programability of the RJM stuff. Really, really easy.
