BEST OD to use on already distorted amp??

I'm looking for some thing in this vein as well. You guys looping the boost? or front end? I'm wanting the solos and leads to pop, but not suck the mids and go bassy/flubby. I'm a professed cheap pedal guy too... JOYO ironman series? TCE mini spark?...anyone ever?

The Timmy sounded flubby in front of my crunchy JMP. I just bought a Brown Sugah pedal from the classified section. Will let you know how it does.

I just want a pedal that adds a bit of tight gain, yet doesn't suck the low end out.
I keep the bass low on mine.

Most of the time, I couldn't tell if the Timmy was on or off unless I looked at the LED! Way too close to parity gain most of the time.

If you can't tell without looking what's the point of using one?? That's why I've never really gotten into boosting. When playing with a band I couldn't really tell a difference. Jamming by myself ya but once in the mix nope.

Boss OD1X. Doesn't suck low end, can add some if you'd like, and has a natural mid bump but not nasal like the vintage OD1.

I use a Mooer Solo, which is a copy of the Suhr Riot, which is somewhat of a copy of the Marshall Guv'nor. Les Paul-Solo-Metroamp 12000 Plexi = Gary Moore all day long.

I've tried them all, boutique, and garden variety TS-types. I don't see the need to spend a fortune, every time I do, they collect dust and my cheaper pedals always come through.

Right now, I'm really digging the MXR GT-OD. I prefer it over any other TS-style. The Green Rhino gets my vote as well. In front of Marshall-type amps that are already thick voiced, MXR Zakk Wylde OD tightens them up nicely.

I agree. I went through the Bogner pedals, Suhr, Wampler, Keeley, Analogman etc...all nice pedals of course, and maybe with a clean or mostly clean circuit they shine better. But my findings are the same...with a distorted/gainy amp you don't have to spend boutique money. SD1, Joyo, Danelectro, OD1X....they all work just as good or better than any of the pricey pedals I've tried.

I use a Timmy. Keeps the amps charactics

Me too. I like the tone of my amps already. I don't want or need something to change that.

I`m seeing a lot of love for the Cusack Screamer and I`m guessing it`s in the Tube Screamer family ? I use my ODs as a clean boos with the volume up and rarely add any gain from the pedal. Does the Cusack tighten up the bass and add a little saturation when used as a clean boost?
It sure does. The added toggle for clipping works great and allows you to use even less from the pedal. Very quiet pedal. I run mine with the level at half and gain at 25% or even less with the toggle in the right position. It adds clarity and the mids are not harsh at all. I have had many and this one is my favorite bar none. I recommended it to another member and he loved it.

my cusack screamer v2 finally arrived today, I will try it out shortly, cant wait!! what position do you guys use the toggle in? why in that position?

I use mine mostly in the left position. All three are useful though. I think left is like the original Screamer(symmetrical smoother clipping)middle is asymmetrical and right is same as left but less brightness called crushed. I could be wrong

thanks for the tips Gary, and for telling me about the v2 to begin with. I was really bummed when my original cusack screamer died, thought I was going to have to do the OD hunt trying out all sorts of pedals. so, the v2 is awesome, and I kept going back to the left toggle position. great pedal, I am happy with it. it acts like my original, tightens up the bass some, and gives it that added bit of touch sensitivity without getting too noisy or changing the tone at all.

 It's great pedal.Very quiet and musical. Blends great with the amp's gain. Look no further for your TS type pedal.

Thorpy Gunshot.

Reza - Really interesting pedal, but all of the videos I've seen have the Gunshot playing through a clean amp (yours included). Would you mind uploading a vid thru a Marshall style amp?

I won't be able to till maybe later next week due to work schedule, but all I can say is...trust me. Liquid beautiful sustaining present and powerful on the drive channel. Im using it for a lead saturation and it just sings.

Ok Reza - now Steve is chiming in on the Gunshot - where's the vid?

Easy answer to this. The protone dead horse or merrow dead horse. It's incredible.

Well, thanks. All this talk about a Cusack, and then I find a used one on GC online. Got it for 80, and combined it with an OD1x into my Jubilee....unreal. Both pedals are so quiet, and I used to say that a boosted Jubilee is as good as any modded Marshall. Now its better than any modded Marshall I've had. Just phenomenal.

Ive had the same problem with the Timmy even when I kept the bass pot fairly low

With the bass pot low, your going to have MORE bass.
The controls on the Tim and Timmy are cuts. So with the bass, the higher you turn the knob, the more bass your cutting out. If you have the knob on low, your going to have more bass than with it dimed.
