Beveled picks

Wow. I never even really paid attention to my picks. I've use the black 2.0 gator grips for over 10 years, so when it came time to order custom personalized picks, I chose the black 'gripp x (gator gripp style) 2.0mms. They arrived today, and I can honestly say, they are VERY different from what I am used to. I'm a little bummed. They look awesome, but the lack of the beveled edge really makes a difference in my technique.

Oh well. Live and learn. Any of you guys prefer the beveled edge? If I tried a lighter gauge in the non-beveled edge, do you think it'd feel better to me?

It's a PITA, but with picks that I don't like the edge on, I've taken some nail files/buffers from Sally Beauty Supply, and beveled the edge how I want it. The Dunlop Tortex Jazz III's I'm playing now come with a slightly rough edge that I take off with a couple grits of buffer before I use them. Takes about 30 seconds per pick. If you're sanding a bevel on them, it may take a bit longer.

I'm starting to get used to it, but it's still not as good as the beveled. I was already considering sanding or filing (good idea about the nail file!)

I wanted to get the 2.0 intunes cause I had wanted custom ones and I use there jazz sized in 1.14. I was bummed also when they said they weren't beveled. I wish I could try one to see if I'd dig it before preserving them

Intune is who did mine. I could kick myself for not even considering the bevel. I guess I'll file them down a little with a nail file.

After about an hour of playing, I did seem to adapt to them a little.

It's funny you mention that Mike... That's the exact reason that I *can't * use the Gators, or the Ultex's for that matter. The bevel, for me, is too sharp.

I like a fatter, plain ol' rounded edge.

But you're right - the bevel on a pick really does affect the feel.

Picks make a difference.... From shape, beveling, and material. It affects your attack and control dynamics. Checkout "Blue Chip" picks in Knoxville. Andy Wood turned me onto them in a conversation we had back around Christmas. I was using Red Bears. I'm using the C55 same as Andy. His has holes drilled for grip. You can order them anyway you want (standard, bevel, grip etc.)
