But I think this does stand as a testament to how powerful and influential the United States is. Other countries know about our issues (and successes). Our news is often in their news, or at least more so than we report on other countries. We seem to only talk about when large groups of people die in other parts of the world

I did. Back then my old man didn’t have the money for all the fancy gear. He made my shit out of couch cushions and deer hides. Nowadays they won’t even let you on a team unless you buy all the same shit everyone else has.

The old man was one of the coaches. We lost every game I think. We always had full team brawls at the end. I remember my dad told us we should all go down to south side athletic and get in the boxing program because we couldn’t play hockey for shit. But I clearly remember during a brawl watching my old man and the opposing coach going at it.

I did until I discovered the guitar at about 11-12 years old when my world shifted. I wasn't aggressive enough. on the rink You have to be willing to hurt people and I didn't have that mindset. I do know a guy who played very high level university league hockey but admitted he was just a bench warmer when I asked him when he was going pro. I still play guitar, he doesn't play hockey. There is a much shorter shelf life for athletes so I am glad I made the choice I made.

Youth hockey has changed a lot since the nineties, but yeah in places like MN it’s still hyper competitive. And IMO It’s actually a great sport to play to old age (Non-checking of course) cause you’re not getting that impact from jumping around on a court.

In a weird way I was brought up in the US without living there. A massive amount of our TV content is from there and now the internet is completely US centric. As a kid I copped all your cartoons, Sesame Street, you name it all your TV sitcoms, serials, movies going right back to the Marx Brothers, Shirley Temple, Mae West and WC Fields, Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, right through to the present day shows,... A lot of people live their lives online to a large extent now - it makes no difference where I'm located. I see all the same shit you do. Yet apparently I shouldn't call you out on some of your shit. Think about how weird that is. I do call people out on their shit here as well.
