I knew Jose Arredondo reasonably well - he was a nice, but overweight and seemingly unwell older man when I met him in '84. He did two mods for me and also was the tech I used to maintain the amps. Cool guy - full of stories of EVH and VH backstage shenanigans that he seemed to participate in and quite enjoy...![]()

That "blog" in the original post is the biggest pile of ridiculous drivel I've ever read. Seems to be working for Blades with some people buying into it though, so more power to him...

Jose never told me anything about EVH using any OD on VH1, but to be fair, I didn't really ask him a lot of questions about EVH's gear. I just wanted his gain mod in my amps, which I'd already heard other local guitar players using and he shared with me what he felt like sharing, which was more tales of backstage debauchery and snapshots he had than gear details. I never pressed for any details, personally. EVH was really secretive at that point and frankly, I doubt Jose would have casually shared details on his gear, although, knowing his personality, I could easily see him throwing out something he knew was bullshit (with a winkcharvelstrat81":3u690u9n said:sah5150":3u690u9n said:Jose died Sep. 16, 1994. Steve since you actually did talk to jose can you put a rumor to rest?
There is a guy on the forums(you probably know who he is so i wont name him) that say's JOSE told him the on VH I eddie used a hand made(by jose) OD pedal to push the plexi more?
Did jose ever mention anything of this kind about eddie? I already know the answer but still would like to hear it from someone who did indeed meet jose![]()
Thanks and i agree VH I was the plexi and definitely all about the way Ted T and Don L got it to tape.sah5150":ei76yft5 said:Jose never told me anything about EVH using any OD on VH1, but to be fair, I didn't really ask him a lot of questions about EVH's gear. When I was at the shop, I did see numerous Van Halen logo'd Marshalls that he had modded for EVH - mostly metal panel 4-holer JMPs as well as heads from many other touring guys like Jake E. Lee, local heroes, etc., etc. I also know he was working on an amp with EVH before he died and those VH logo'd amps might have been prototypes of that, or Ed may have used them live (I believe he did) - they looked more stock than my mods did.
I personally think VH1 is a mind-blowingly great player through a stock plexi with the variac at 90V, Echoplex'd and with some great production by TT... YMMV and endless arguing is sure to follow...![]()
