I love my Rev 2 cranked with no boost! The bass has to be pretty much all the way down but through my front loaded Deizel cab it's brutal. Definitely not super tight but sounds evil, dark and overwhelming. Luckily I have a place where I get to crank my amps. I usually will boost it if I am recording with it.

I was rather surprised at how loose and undefined both Herberts I played were without a boost. One I owned for about a month and a half or so, and the other I played quite extensively on several occasions in a local store with my cab and guitar. IDK, maybe both had tubes that were on the beat side or some other issue, but I think the odds of both having something wrong were pretty slim. They are however quite high wattage heads and maybe they needed to be cranked up to small arena volumes before they tightened up on their own.

Boosted they tightened up to a really sweet spot. Tight enough but still had some sag/forgiveness that made them a real joy to play. Man that amp felt fucking good under the fingers. I could be wrong, but thats kinda what I expect the Uber to feel like.

I had a Herbert for about 5 years and it used to be my #1. I never used a boost much, but did crank it up quiet a bit most of the time... around 11:00 on both MVs and presence at 3:00. I also liked channel 3 with mid-cut on the best. But then I got the SE...

The Uber has a different feel to it. More raw, open, less compressed, less processed. Similar amount of bass, maybe a touch more preamp gain, but a more natural sounding and less processed/produced overall sound. Like a live recording vs a studio recording.

I also have a Herbert and an SE. The SE is my number 1 for sure, the most brutal tight sound I have ever heard! I keep thinking I should sell the Herbie but I'm not gonna give it away. I just retubed it with all 6550 power tubes and it sounds clearer and heavy a hell. No boost!

I have only played one Herbert in a store for like 10 minutes tops. I skimmed through quickly but went right to the brutal channel and played with the mid cut.

I wish I spent more time with it but MAN. That amp will crush a rib cage. It was so brutal it was insane. I could see not needing a boost with that amp but again I only had a few minutes with it.

My only complaint was that it was too hi fi or processed sounding for me.

It is a more dry, processed, sterile, less saturated sound. Not as "normal tube amp" sounding as some.

I applaud your taste in amps.

I do like the SE more than the Herbie as well. Had them side to side. It's more evil sounding and more articulate. Plus super versatile. Killer amp. My current #1 as well.

I saw you're Herbert in the Classifieds... price is fine... I just think it's the time of year. Give it another month or two.
