Splawn vs Axe Fx

I guess you could dial in those weird mids.

Yeah they have a new patch that clogs shit in your ears so you hear those supposed weird mids that you guys talk about... LOL! :D

a post master ear wax remover?!?!

I was thinking more of a pre-master parallel ear-wax clogger!
You adjust the amount of gunk in your ears to suit your "Weird mids" preference...

ahhhhhhhhhh...I see, I see

I think it was released in patch 7.6.5.4. It also has the Bogner blanket-over-the-speakers control so you can adjust how muffled the sound is.

I wonder if you can do these mods by yourself? Maybe with some gauze pads and ball bearings?

Hmm... I'm thinking you need something soft... like candlewax... something that won't stand ANY chance of resonating..

Ah the Splawn Forum admin has officially landed

Dude..
All Splawn owners are the Splawn Forum Admins. We all admin each other. It's a forum full of admins! I block people all the time! It's a little game we play. Only criteria for this job is to own a Splawn and like it... weird mids and all... LOL! :D

No opinion on this other than the "in 10 years" concept around here is freakin' hilarious.
How many folks have their amps past 6 month? :)

Even then, what's the resale value on the AxeFX compared to an Amp?

This is especially true when in "6 months", after the hype dies out.

You need ear wax to soften the blow from those mids.

There is a splawn setting on the Axe - run a tube screamer into a wah pedal half way down into a marshall sim.

I wasn't arguing the amp vs. AxeFx point, I was merely saying the idea of worrying about 10 years around here when the average life span before selling and buying something else is what about 3-9 month around here.
As for any perceived hyp, I've seen the "when the hype dies down" comment since before I got mine and I had for a year.

  Do you get a crew cut and hacky sack too?

  Also that patch makes you want to make out with guys in pools and lick hairy nipples.

I know a lot of guys say the Bogner and Axe can sound almost identical. But no matter how hard I tried I could not get my Bogner to sound as horrible as the Axe Fx does, no matter how I dialed the Bogner in.

On the hype thing - I mentioned 6 months only because you mentioned that some don't keep their amps 6 months (no offense intended, just a reference point). While true, it plays into the whole deal.

When the hype dies down, which could be in 6 months, or a year, or 2 years - it will eventually die down, because something bigger/better will come out....the AxeFX will have lost at least 50% of it's value.

Meanwhile the Bogner (or other high-dollar amp) will stay to the same general value as they are today. The SLO is a great example. Still going for about 50-66% retail price, depending on condition/age (50% being more towards a road-beaten, spray-painted late 80's model)

At the end of hte day, most people will look at hte AxeFX as a piece of software running on some cheap hardware, and as the software becomes more "aged" relevant to newer, better software, running on newer, better hardware - it's value will plummet.

Example, how much is an original POD going for these days compared to a POD 3.0?

Anyhow, yeah, 10-year retention is a bit long for this forum ;)

How about Bogner Line 6 VS Axe fX..... :aww:

I'm still confused why Bogner did this, unless it was just to get his name into more households.

Couple other things...

the Axe is also a world class fx processor. People are still using TC electronic 2290s and such, those are from what, the late 80s?

Also, everyone goes on and on about depreciation. Sure that's something to think about. How many of you have bought Peavey tube amps in the last few years and seen the resale dive? How about the Marshall JVM? I see them used for 1400 or so, what are they new now? OK, look at older Marshalls - how about a TSL vs their new price? I've seen used TSL's for 800ish. I sold a good condition DSL 50 for $699 shipped... it was a fair price, but how much were they new?

Plus Cliff has updated the firmware (including new amp sims) several times for *free*. Take your TSL Marshall into the local repair center and ask for the JVM upgrade. :)

Bad example on the SLO, mine is mint and I paid well under $2k for mine a few weeks ago :)
