This has been my experience trying to start bands. I finally tapped out, started writing and learned to record at home. I haven’t looked back since.

Just make sure you lube up them assholes . Being an all make band
Just sound advice

The problem is most people are inexperienced and assume you just put the band in the same room, and then you "jam", and then songs magically happen.

That's not what happens when you form a band.

Someone writes songs, and everyone learns the songs before you all get in the same room and jam. Then you make tweaks, changes, additions and subtractions to the songs while everyone is in the same room.

Only people without jobs have the time to just "jam" for days on end and magically come up with songs.

It's disrespectful if a band gets held up because some member doesn't have the professionalism to learn what was agreed upon before a rehearsal.

It may not even be their fault, if there's a skill mismatch. I never was able to find a drummer to play with me for the long term. You really need someone with drive and skills in a band, not someone who's just there to be fashionable and have a good time.

That said, no point burning bridges. This is especially true if the guys are decent musicians and you gel. Go meet up, have fun and then have an earnest discussion about what went wrong. Who knows, perhaps one or two members will jam again in future in some other project.

Can we be clear?
Nobody is ‘jamming’ anything up anyone.
No-one is making preserves.
The roads were clear.
No-one is experiencing insurmountables in their lives.
This wasn’t a ‘Jam’ tribute act.
No-one lost their cock.
They were just jamming alright?
Fucking waste of time, money, and good equipment these days. Even more so if it’s Dad stuff. Rocky Mountain Way for 2 hours! Followed by Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, is that the time? Ok guys, see you next month.

Still, nothing is as bad as being the guitar player for Nina Hagen Band on a full tour, and finding out that tonight’s Bass Player is a kid she met working in a gas station that morning, and she liked his vibe man. Can you imagine that shit?

We were just jamming at first to feel everything out. Finding the sounds and the riffs. I wrote two tunes and we flushed them out. I have vocal ideas for parts, but I didn't finish anything. I feel like we're four weeks into a band we've been doing for seven months. There just wasn't a motivation to do it. The guitarist was just to busy to meet for a regular sessions, let alone write anything.

Sure, I could have showed up with 10 songs and made the band learn them, but I don't want to be a dictator like that. I've always enjoyed the open collaboration. Besides, if I'm playing bass, I'm just bringing a skeleton of a song anyways. In the end, it's not a huge loss because it wasn't anything. It was just a fun little project, never made it to becoming a band.

There’s probably 10 guitarists in your street.
At least get a keener guitarist to come to your house, and flesh out the stuff first.

Jamming is the reason why nothing got done lol

Rehearsals are for performing finished songs, performing half finished songs, trying changes made to finished songs, or adding parts to finished songs

it's not for getting stoned and someone plays a I IV V or a riff so everyone can wank off - everyone can do that at home, and much more comfortably now

There's no reason to have a "jam sesh" unless you're trying to work something specific out. Aimless jamming is for stoned teenagers, not adult musicians

Write songs, rehearse songs, perform songs

I feel personally attacked, lol

Jamming is fine and can be fun if everyone knows that's what the time is for :dunno:

It's just real bands don't "jam" for hours and hours - people come with ideas, and those ideas get "jammed on" and arranged and distilled and perfected.

I've met some of the "let's just jaaaaaaam maaaaaan" people to play music before and the same shit always happens - everyone gets stoned/drunk, no music gets made:hys:

No good when my Floyd guitars are tuned to D or C#.
Just put a Capo on man.
Yeah right.

What generally happens is I have to set the guy’s Bass up for him after I’ve tuned it down.
Then it sounds shit because he had girlie strings on it.
You then find the drummer’s kit is totally undamped, and nobody ever told him that playing drums actually means playing them - not just hitting them as hard as you can.
The other guitarist left in disgust, as he’s never had to tune his guitar since it left the store - and he’s not going to risk it.
The vocalist by now is crawling around on the floor, moaning help me man.
The keyboard player’s 4 year-old daughter phoned to get picked up from a bouncy castle party early, as the Dad band got abusive when they didn’t bounce in time!! Ha ha

When my first band ever I was in for 15 years slowly turned into a once every four weeks bro fest, I quit.
It was ok for the other guys to get away from their families, play our old songs and have a few beers, but not for me. If I play in a band, I‘d like to play a gig here and there

Don’t be homophobic! Do you want to make great art or not?
