Nice score. Budda and a Wolfgang are a great combo. I've alway wanted that turn down the volume for clean turn up for drive to work for me. The only combination I found that actually did it was a Wolfgang standard into a Budda SD30.
Wish I had kept both. :D
HNAD
That's what I got...a Wolfgang with a Budda, it's glorious!!
The volume knob roll-off is really nice, and the higher output pickups of the Wolfgang push the preamp really nicely.

I had a guy offer me a trade on the 30 watt Budda (could have been a 45 watt amp, don't remember exactly) 2x12 for my JCM800 head. He came over and we a/b'd them for a good hour. We just stood there looking at each other in disbelief. He was very sad when I told him the trade wasn't going to happen. No way.

I often wonder if there was something wrong with that amp.

Yep.

i have always wanted to try a superdrive but never had the chance to play one. I have come across a few for crazy prices but was to slow on the trigger. I want to try the sd30 as the 18 isnt quite enough watts for gigs etc. If I sell a few amps i may pick up a budda used to try out.

Congrats Adam!
I look forward to hearing clips from you.
I'm sure it will sound great.

Could be something was wrong with it...did it sound that bad? What did it sound like?

Try one out first at a local store that carries them...any Peavey dealer should have them.
There's a store near me that stocks them, so I have played the SD18 quite a bit and knew I loved it before I bought it.

Thanks Phil...within a week I'll mic it up and maybe write a little instrumental idea with it.
The stock Budda 'Phat' speaker sounds really good in the combo. I was thinking since it was an Eminence I would be probably switching it out (haven't had much luck with Emi) but it's staying.

Congrats Adam! They're great amps. I figured you'd dig it.
Mine blew a power transformer so its dead in the water. Working on getting a replacement power transformer for it :(

Crap, I hope you can get the right replacement for it.

Been home from work for about half an hour and the wife and kiddies aren't home.
I've had it cranked up and....HOLY CRAP, IT'S A GREAT SOUNDING AMP!! It really gives up the goods when you turn it up....and loud for 18 watts. I can't see anyone wanting more volume for playing clubs. I won't be using all of the volume that this thing has. I'm really looking forward to gigging with this amp.

I think the Mesa Electra Dyne is gonna be for sale soon. The Budda is very full sounding and weighs half the weight. It must be the best rock combo on the planet...seriously. I'm stoked after hearing it turned up to 12:00 on the master.

It gets no louder after 12:00, just more compressed.
9:00 - 10:00 would be fine for gigs for me. It's a loud bugger, it grinds nicely.

Interesting, as an ex-bandmate of mine had a SD45 and I agree, it did not sound that great IMO. Was also anything but dark, if anything it was too bright and a really touchy master volume. But who knows there could've been something wrong with it, I've heard lots of budda clips I really dug. Different tubes in the 45 though too (I think KT66s?).

I have no doubt OP can get some killer tones out of it (hint, that means post a clip now Adam! :gethim: )

Happy NAD

I contacted Jeff Bober who owned Budda before Peavey bought it. He has a spare power transformer. Selling crap on ebay now to fund it...

Yup, they're terrific amps man.

Thanks!
I read where Jeff Bober said the 18, 30, 45, 80 watt models are all voiced differently in the preamp, so they aren't just different wattages of the same design, but actually different sounding amps altogether.
Seems the SD45 is not to all y'alls liking.

That's great, Jeff seems like a great guy to his customers.

This is interesting...
For the SD18 Jeff highly recommends using these tubes as that's what the amp was voiced with when it was initially designed...hey, and they're cheap.

V1 - Sovtek 12ax7wb
v2 - Sovtek 12ax7wa
v3 - Sovtek 12ax7wa
Sovtek EL84s
Sovtek 5U4G tube rectifier....or the Electro Harmonix 5U4GB will tighten the amp up a bit

Congrats, KILLER Amp!!

I have owned 1-18, 2-30s, 2-80s, and 3  45s (Ok actually two, but the second one I got back again after not owning it for two years)... 8 x Budda love!

And... Yes my wife thinks I am a doofus anytime I sell one

I owe my addiction to the to Mike (Ratter) at the Virginia ampfest

On the 45s: I remember Sgt Thump mentioning a bunch of them being shipped out with two wires switched and it made the amp harsh and thin. My 45s have all been thick and meaty, with 66s or I put in 6L6s, little cleaner and more percussive.

They all sound killer and in the same vein, I wish I could own one of each!

CLIPS please!
"my wife thinks I am a doofus anytime I sell one"

I'm with you in thinking that I should pick up another. :D

Interesting info about the SD45, that would explain something. Too bad they shipped them out like that, but it sounds like a simple fix.

LOL - you can tell how much you love an amp by how many times you've sold it! :D :D :D

I've had 2x18, 2x80, 3xTwinmaster, 1xStringmaster...

The 80 was my only amp for like 5 years or something...very un-Internet. I'm sure I could live happily ever after with that one or any of them for that matter. The real sleeper of the whole gang is the Twinmaster. The godfather...it's like a pissed off little plexi but way more touch-sensitive than pretty much any amp I've ever tried. Playing that amp is like putting a leash on a wolverine and trying to take it for a walk...
