I've been playing for 33 years and while I'm fairly capable in general, I've always been severely lacking in the theory department, namely with scales/modes. I've seen enough reviews of @Techdeth's lessons that when I decided I was going to take some, I wasn't really wondering where I'd go to get them and today I had my first guitar lesson, ever.

And my lack of this knowledge hasn't been due for lack of trying, I've attempted to learn and memorize everything my entire guitar playing life but never had the dots connected enough to really make use of anything I'd learn, so I'd immediately forget it. Some people have both a perspective that allows them to see the bigger picture and also the ability to break it into chunks for those who can't see it and Tech was doing it with me within about 5 minutes.

Great dude to shoot the shit with, too!!! I can't wait for my next one, it took maybe 10 minutes before I had the first "Ahhhhhhh I fuckin' get it!" and that just happened over and over for an hour straight.

Bro thanks for that . It was a blast ! I do think I can teach it a way that works . I got frustrated with teachers and books myself . But like today you see it’s a lot easier than people think it is . Great lesson and shit ! Thanks again

Got the day off today, once I get some errands done I'm making up some backing tracks and by next practice I'll have that shit locked down so I won't have to approach any of it in a linear fashion.

Another part of the reason for getting the lessons I didn't mention, but knowing how EJ creates those triads on the fly for all his clean chord work, I know with what I'm learning now I'll be able to pull that same thing off and after I get that fucking 12-15-15-19 stretch I'll actually be able to finger some of the voicings he does.

The important thing of note here is that despite being eager to teach myself this shit and as well as I can learn technique on my own, the particular way you teach delivers the excitement factor right away that keeps you interested. It's like tossing a gold coin in your pocket while you're following the treasure map to the actual treasure.

I've always been severely lacking in the theory department, namely with scales/modes.

No one ever listens to me but I'd memorize the notes of every major scale, the chords of a key, and the formulas for chord construction. I can't imagine not having that knowledge to access because you can then sit down and analyze what you are doing with your solos and add choice chord tones to them that really help make a statement. You are a really good player already, everything you do is just going to bolster your skills.

I think it's good you are taking lessons from @Techdeth. He's soul patch approved, has the fritos, and even developed his own super blues scale which I approve of so I know the man has done his homework. Plus he is a nice person, inside. Best of fortunes with your new adventures into guitar and theory.

I'm 2 months in on my lessons from @Techdeth and I can already tell I am making a lot of improvements. He has a great way of identifying what you need to learn to help you connect with the next level. Initially, I was apprehensive that I had played by ear so long, that I couldn't possibly learn the theory. Techdeath makes it easy and he finds the songs and licks that interest you. Lessons are always fun also. If I can make progress after 35 years of winging it and memorization, anyone can.
