I've been considering a custom Skervesen for a while. But I found this one already in progress and grabbed it. Estimated lead time is 6-8 months. If I spec'd one from the ground up, it would probably have a buckeye burl top and ebony board. But I already have a Mayones Duvell MBC with that combo so I don't have any FOMO. There was a similar build available a while back that I almost grabbed, but I passed because I wasn't in love with a couple of its specs. So I'm excited this one popped up!

It's going to have Lundgren M6 pickups, Hipshot bridge/tuners, volume/3-way, and set up for Drop C with D'Addario 11-56. I'm still trying to decide on the fretboard markers. If I had it my way, it wouldn't have any. But the board's already been drilled, which is fine. I was thinking of going with something like ebony dots to help them blend in a bit? Or I can just roll with the default Luminlay. I don't think abalone fits the guitar's vibe though. Maybe black pearloid?

Beautiful man. I love looking at these guitars, but never find the justification to purchase one, not sure why. I have no input on the inlays, just excited for you.

Really cool wood picks on this one - that wenge and limba are super grained up. Gorgeous. As far as inlays....probably not possible to get little limba inlays huh? Would really match the body in a neat way. Or you could try to get little purpleheart ones. Barring some type of wood like that - what are the options? Plain black would do well to just kind of blend in overall.

Could probably get then to put a different neck on it and save that for another build. No inlays are always my preference. I have ordered that whenever I ordered custom. Jackson thought they should put the shark fins, though, and I ended up really digging them

I did think of that. But I'm guessing due to the nature of black limba, each dot could end up being very different. Some white-ish, some dark brown, some black.

Oh that's actually a great idea! Purple heart.

I think the standard options are Luminlay, black plastic, white pearl, black pearl, ebony... I think purple heart is a fantastic idea.

I can ask if they have other necks. But I do know their builds are usually 2 years because after they glue the wood and carve the rough body shape, they let them sit for a looooong time to relieve any internal stresses in the wood. So if I ask for another neck, it might extend the build time significantly. But if I did that, I would probably opt for an ebony board.

Agree on the purple ones, looks cool & unique.
The black ones look too "bland" & kind of off to me, not as good as any other option.
Besides purple (or any other unique color that would kind of pop-up & brings a color touch / contrast), I think best is going for a lighter shade, would that be the luminlays or any kind of light wood / aged pearl. It echoes the lighter areas / figures of the main body well.

I had some standard shape/size but similar lighter colored dots on my Koa/Rosewood Charvel (can't remember right now if it was some kind of aged pearl or light wood), looked real nice in person:

Ok Skervesen said the fretboard will be sealed/finished and will look much darker in the end. So that might affect the decision.
As someone who basically has a similar build - mine does not have inlays lol BUT if it did - that purpleheart would be poppin! Alright - I'm done. I hope whatever it ends up being - it is exactly what you want brother! I just recalled my 24th fret double marker on the side accidentally got hit with a bit of purple when I had them do a custom paint job, and I wish the rest of them were like that as well.

They also have these graphite dots. I guess they're black-ish, like pencil lead. But kind of shimmer at different angles.

I showed this to two other people and they also chose the purpleheart.

"Unobtrusive and unique" is a direct quote.

The graphite would be trippy looking man!

I have a nut made of graphite I polished up and its definitely black in some light and silver/metallic in others.

I think purple heart is the winner but Skervesen is saying the fretboard will be sealed/finished and will look quite dark. And purple heart does fade over time to a brown color. So I'm not sure how it'll turn out. I don't think they've ever tried it before. I want to be brave and go for it, but I'm not sure yet haha. I need to decide quick because they said they're gonna start radiusing the neck this coming week and need to have the inlays locked down. So yeah, I'm leaning toward purple heart or the default luminlay.

Congrats, I love Skervesen. I’ve done 5 builds with them over the years and still have 2 of them.
