Hmmmmm.....I talked to Mark the other night, then Doug called him, then Mark called me back......pretty cool. But anyway, Mark told me he was using a Martin modded Marshall and one of his Camerons (pretty much the same one I have (it's an '03 mod), and was whitching back and forth between them and using a couple differnt boosts. He said the Cameron was the brighter of the two. He said it's hard to hear, but you can hear it.

But you have hung out with Doug havn't you? Did you ask him about this? So, what you're saying is I need another cab and a power amp.....

Edit: I do notice he has 3 cabs miced. Hmmm, you're prolly right.

Yeah man i have hung out with Doug a bunch of times. I ask him way too many gear questions and hes always kind enough to tell me all the info! The live solo and most of the solos in the songs was the Cameron Superlead, and the Martin mod was used for almost all the rhythm work. Doug had one of Mark's Standel amps but i dont think it was used as much as the other two amps on that show.

On the dvd, Mark's pretty much spot on with what Doug told me too. Martin Golub modded 78 JMP and Mark's mod on a 71 superlead. He has them hooked up to a CAE head switcher, which allows him to switch between any head into the one 4x12 cab. The amp switcher has a line out, which feeds his FX. His FX feed into his Mosvalve 500 poweramp, or sometimes he uses a VHT 2150 poweramp. The poweramp feeds the two outer cabs the left and right signal. The FX units are a Roland SDE-3000 for the short mod delay, and a Boss SE-70 for the long stereo delay.

He boosts the front end of the Marshalls with a Furman PQ-3 for more gain, and sometimes has a DS-1 in there running too sometimes but not always!
You are da man! THAT was the info I was looking for!! I hope to hang out or at least meet Doug at the NAMM show this year.

I also REALLY want to find out more info on this Martin Golub guy! I did a search on "Martin modded Marshalls" and stuff like that, but found nothing. I know he worked for CAA or Suhr, but I can't seam to get any info at all. Is he still modding amps?

I was just down comparing amps again and changing out tubes and stuff. Man, my Jose is killing my Aldrich tonight. I think I like the smoother gain and softer mids. But I can get the Jose just as tight as the Aldrich, if not tighter. Fun stuff.

The Aldrich will sound killer with SED's, i think i would really like the Jose too. Maybe as much as the Aldrich! A Jose is definitly next on my list of amps!

Ok heres the info on Martin. He used to work for Custom Audio Electronics with Bob Bradshaw. I dont think he's at CAE anymore.. I know he designed the Diamond amplification though so maybe hes working for Diamond amps now...

His mod as far as i know, was a slight variation on the mod that John Suhr designed when he was working at the CAE shop. Doug's other favorite Marshall has the original John Suhr mod in it, Its not the 3+SE mod though, im pretty sure of that!

One thing i would love to know.. and i think i should ask Mark this.. is that Doug's 71 Superlead was modded by someone else before Mark worked on it. I believe a guy called Frank Levi modded it around the time Doug played for Hurricane and House of Lords. I wonder if Mark gutted the amp of the Levi mods and completely re-modded it? It sounded similar in some ways back then to how it does now!

You'd love the Jose. If I could only have one, i really think I'd have to go with the Jose. I do need to put the SED's in the Aldrich though.

Thanks for the info on Martin, I'll look into it. As for Doug's '71, I think I have talked ot Mark about that amp before, but I really don't remember the details. Whenever Mark and I talk, it's about a 4 hour conversation about anything from amps to politics. :D

Haha awesome! I have only spoke to Mark occasionally through PM's but it'd be cool to talk to him sometime on the phone. Seems like a really cool guy!!

This has been a really good read so far! No Cameron amps do I have, but still a very cool read

Cheers

He's the coolest, most down to earth person you'll ever talk to.

 Il give him a call at some point!

Im using a Marshall 4x12 with 25w Greenback Reissues. I run the amp at 16 ohm into the cab which is wired at 16ohm. If you're after Aldrich type tones, Greenies are the way to go. I can nail the tone on Dio - Killing The Dragon CD with the Cameron into the Greenbacks.

What speakers you using Jason?

Damn.....I have all V30's in my slant and V30/75 X pattern in my straight. I'm prefering the X pattern right now. I just added the 75's to it last week. Really like it so far. I've never even tryed GB's. Man it never ends. I have a lot of speakers I need to try.

I think you would love the GB's with the Cameron. IMO they are a match made in heaven! They have a unique sound to them, that i only hear in greenbacks and no other speakers. You gotta try them sometime man!

Killer brother. Don't they just floor you every time you play them? And do yours sound a lot different from eachother too? Mine do. They compliment eachother. I'm watching the Evil or Devine DVD right now for the 12th time in a week.

Yup!!! The Jose and Aldrich sound very different from each other.

Steve

:D You really do need to get one, Mark is a damn genius with these mods. He cured my amp GAS for a long time!! :D

+1000 :D

I run my HG Jose with the EVH cab (Heritage Greenbacks).....pure tone heaven :D

I am going to load my Bogner cabs with the Heritage GB's as soon as possible.......they sound so much better to me than the V30's (which I have used for years).........I just never took the time before to explore the GB's

Damn, I've been using V30's for a while myself and never thought I'd like the GB's. It never ends man. I guess I know what I have to do now.

What's the difference between a normal GB and a Heritage GB?

 [/quote]

It makes a huge difference in my room. Night and day difference. With the slant that is. Instead of the baffle slanting up at my drywalled and plastered ceiling and bouncing off, it spreads it out left and right, instead of out and up. I keep the straight on it's side too so when I move my mics from cab to cab, I don't need to adjust the height.

Yeah I'm just bustin on ya....it just struck me funny. My Wizard Metal cab is kinda made like a slant on its side, and half the time its on its side like a slant  :)
