From this clip I get an Aldrich mod sorta vibe

yeah
but the Aldrich mod doesn't have the diode clipping and has one extra tube gain stage
it shouldn't be much different from a Jose, though
Doug had an original Jose back in the day

his main tone is the Suhr/Golub JMP, anyway, but people away seems to attribute his tones to the Cameron (the chupacabra effect)

You're correct The Aldrich mod doesn't use diodes, it does not use an extra tube though either... Generally if you see one that has an extra tube it's for the FX loop....

I don't know but some of the clips of this amp sound as good to me as the "big name" modded Marshalls.

Not everyone has the proper stuff to record clips that sound like Dave's . I think what you have to do with these lower quality clips is consider the compression and artifacts that are inherit once the clip makes it to you-tube and try to imagine, based on knowledge what the amp would probably sound like in the room. Its hard to do. Your never gonna get the impact of what this amp can do until you play one/bottom line. Once in a while I hear a video clip that comes out pretty good, but I just cant justify the money involved in buying a camcorder that would make a better clip to try to impress the masses on how good this amp is. I did my best with my $14.99 web cam just to give a vague idea, and I think Splawner did the same. I knew some would hate it, but I threw it into the fray anyhow. I invite anyone hear in Northern Ca.....come play this amp if your on the fence about purchasing. Hell....I have a whole slew of shit you can play. Just shoot me a PM. sTEVE

Personally I never usually dig camcorder audio. I think because I sit in front of ADAM S3X-H's all day working with raw studio guitar tracks, so I can not only hear the sound but I can feel the nuances and movement of the amp/player/guitar etc... Camcorder audio never gives me that and always seems to do this weird compression/ducking on chord changes that makes all the amps sound soft. I especially hear it on the loud high gain stuff. For me the audio clip of Pete Thorn playing the Friedman/Scumback combo was the clip that made me want to start doing clips. That clip just blew my mind but it was a high end studio clip. I have a top of the line Sony HD Handy Cam which I use and it can't capture the fury of a Marshall, the audio on it really levels the playing field and imparts a one dimensional flatness that makes most high gain amps sound pretty similar, even if they aren't. Maybe I'm spoiled but I think we all get our sound perspective from either listening to records or standing in front of an amp. Both experiences are very electrifying, no pun intended. But If all you have is a camera that's obviously cool and this post is in no way meant to discourage you, it's just my take on the subject as a whole.

This amp fest I have coming up is gonna be video'd and recorded and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this because I'm going to be recording everything in the studio and filming with my Sony while we demo amps and it's just gonna be to much to try and time align and mix the whole event for video, so I'm thinking just use the camera audio for all the video, so you can hear all the comments in the room from people playing and listening, which is really important and then make high res studio files of every amp that people can listen to. Kind of the best of both worlds. Still not sure how it will all pan out. I also have to experiment with turning the audio record volume down on my camcorder because it clips out. I hope it's just the audio record volume and not the SPL collapsing the front end of the built in mic. Will be looking into that this week.

I think the Q3 does a decent job especially for $150. Here's my Metro Brown Eye and Simple Clean. Just noodling without any edit.

does the camera have an external mic input by chance that you can use one of your better mics along with it (duct tape it to the side or something   ) that won't clip when you walk in the room with the amp blasting?

That's what I'm gonna check with tomorrow.

Sounds great.

I agree as well.

The best part is that the amp in the room usually sounds better than the videos. So if you like the videos, people will love the sound in the actual room with the amp.
+1

yep,i've found that the "volume" level of the amp is KEY to how your recorded clip comes out sounding.it doesnt need to be turned up high and, along with trying out a few different mic positions, most average quality camcorders should do the job pretty well.Lpfreak's clip above sounds great as do all of psychodave's...my point being is that the "set-up" is worth far more than most guys realize.it's an underrated aspect of the recording process.

I actually had the amp at stage volume. That's why I hit the string mute chug at first. It kicks in the Q3's compressor by doing so and the volume doesn't drop when you start playing. I also had the camera about 3 feet from the amp.

It does sound good but it's imparting a nasalness that probably isn't there. Listen to the clip in my signature at 4:28, that's my Brown Eye, that recording is how my amp sounds, very little artifacts or unnaturalness. The only reason I post this is I've seen amps get a bad wrap around here because of iffy clips. IMO it's a slippery slope. Go listen to the clips on Fortin's site, that how you do it. The clips of the Meathead are killer and show the amp in its full glory. Now I know most of the guys on here don't have access to real studios but judging amps off camcorder videos and Garage Band clips can be unfair and damaging to the builder. Just keep these low to medium grade clips in perspective, that's all I'm saying. If they are just for fun then leave them at that.

What James is saying is what i was trying to say....I still enjoy watching the videos people shoot, but I know the amps arent getting full representation based on the videos alone.

Problem is some clips flat out suck and really misrepresent the amp.

 I'm with ya...100%. That being said, I pulled my webcam clips. Not that you guys were directing that at me...but the quality was pretty bad. I went out and bought a cam corder in hopes I can start putting some decent clips up. And ...honestly im damned bored. Here's my first attempt...still need work...its not this thin in person, but its a little better. Steve

I would really like to build one of these from a kit.... i know... no kit...... yet (hopefully)
