Knut,

Well, I never really wanted McCain in office either. The man's temper alone gave me massive pause and skepticism of his caliber as a President but his policies and ideas are only marginally better than those of Barack Obama. Some infact I'd say were worse.

That being said, when Obama's positions and ideas are combined with a Democrat controlled congress, I feel the threats to the general "American way of life" in regards to our civil liberties, free markets, and even the Constitution are great enough for me to not support him.

Granted, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and the Congress under thier watch also did great harm to the things I mentioned.

My opinion is all that could have been done in the election was to make the best of a bad situation. I do not feel that this has happened.

Don't get me wrong, the historic significance of this election is massive. The first African-American, non-white, non-English/Irish/Germanic descendant President of the United States of America is a great thing. Hopefully a big step towards putting the idiocy of racism behind us.

I just do no feel that this occured for all the "right" reasons.

Now that there is a "foreigner approved" President maybe they can start worrying about their own governments now...

No need to son, just keep your TV on and watch every promise he made disappear one by one.
And that's different than other presidents, how?

 OBAMA!

congrats to our new President!

The American Dream is still alive!!!!!

Regarding taxes. We're $10 trillion in debt. Something has to be done. Don't wanna pay higher taxes? Then cut spending. But that never happens, no matter who's in charge. We're a big spending country, no doubt about it. We just don't get much for the money we spend. Now if you're a private military contractor, then you get plenty.

Same here. Never been ashamed to be an American, until now. Given two bad choices, this country chose the one that was the worst.

Oh well.
Let me clear up my end, Im actually very proud to be American and always will be, its the the others that wanted this that Im ashamed of..

Let' a take it easy. The man was just elected and you' re already passing judgement? Usually that comes later. However, considering the past eigth years and knowing your voting record, are you ashamed? I' be never been ashamed to call you a friend.

amazing. after 8 years of Bush this country needed a change.

I dont support anything he believes in Andrew, so yeah, Im passing judgement. You also know that I was no gung ho Bush supporter ever, I never liked him even when I voted for him, you know that as well. I dont like the fact that I had to choose the lesser of 2 evils for the last 2 elections and I swore that Id never do that again and I didnt this year, I chose to write in and will continue to do so if I dont like who's on the ticket. Am I ashamed, nope just pissed...

This isnt about what we had for the last 8 years.... This about the future and Im not interested in anything BO is about, Im interested in me and I dont see anything that hes about inline with what I want...

No arguments here Steve...

I see both sides of the coin brother. For me personally-Obama was the choice.

I just can speak for myself (if this should be directed at me), but if I remember correctly BO came here and spoke to "me" in "my" capitol. About globalization, the world wide climate change - and also that he will demand more troops from his european allies for Afghanistan.
I liked what he said - and I disliked our chancelloresse's asslicking of Bush several times. Although she and Sarkozy asked Bush during G8 in 2007 to reduce the risks of certain capital fonds, but . . . well, the rest is well known and its results are affecting me too.

So you see, I'm mostly worried about my chancelloresse's tongue :)

In debt to who?

Oh thats right the Federal Reserve...I forgot.

Hooray, looking forward to the day that my brethren serving in the military can be back on food stamps when our pay and benefits are again no longer commensurate with the economy, and the average military household lives below the poverty line. Also looking forward to again living in condemned barracks and working in hangars riddled with asbestos, because we don't have the funding to be able to renovate them. Clearly, welfare programs will need the funding more than people that live, bleed, and die for the nation. But above all, I look forward to someone that knows nothing about the military talking about military withdrawls and timelines with regards to a theater he has visited once and knows nothing more about that what he was told second-hand or saw on the news. I mean, what do I know, I've only been here three times myself for periods ranging from six months to a year and some change. But hey, Russia is glad he was elected, that must mean good things right? They have our best interests in mind I'm sure?

With all due respect, I think it's the "me" thinking that we need to get away from.

Look at Detroit right this minute for a glimpse of the future of all of the US in the next 20-50 years.

Thanks be to GM. In one regard, I'm happy that they are collapsing. On the other side, I feel bad for those that will lose their jobs. But hey, obviously, the GM execs did a monumentally good job running that company to deserve the high salaries and the bailout from government. Fuck GM!

as opposed to the "Lets give Illegals drivers licenses and benefits" thinking? Ive done more than my share for others Andrew and you know that, Im not down with the whole subsidy and never will be, if thats selfish and me thinking, than Im damn proud of it...

I agree about cutting spending and corporate handouts, Im way on board with that, its what the monies saved and collected are slated for that Im not and never will be.
