as opposed to the "Lets give Illegals drivers licenses and benefits" thinking? Ive done more than my share for others Andrew and you know that, Im not down with the whole subsidy and never will be, if thats selfish and me thinking, than Im damn proud of it...

I agree about cutting spending and corporate handouts, Im way on board with that, its what the monies saved and collected are slated for that Im not and never will be.

Whether or not you like to admit it, this country needs cheap labor to do menial tasks whether they be illegal or not. This country was built on the backs of slaves. Not everyone needs to be an executive. It's actually impossible. However, people should be able to survive working these jobs that are necessary. Anyone of us can be bankrupted by medical bills. Anyone of us can have our jobs cut so a super rich CEO can pocket a couple more million for making a bullshit decision while driving their company into the ground. Obama's election will do nothing to prevent me from working hard. But I feel that the middle class is what needs to be lifted up and not the rich few.

If you think the baby boomers and elderly are thinking about anyone other than themselves, you are mistaken. This is why social security is never fixed. The elderly have such a strong voting base that if a candidate says the wrong thing, he is doomed.

No argument from me there. SS is a $40 trillion liability. The number is mind boggling actually.

I think the younger vote offset the elderly this time Dave. People under 28 voted were strongly in Obama's favor. The elderly always do vote, but this time the young were motivated to vote.

Exactly. People under 28 are extremely impressionable very much idealists and more prone to buy into propaganda (myself included when I was under). Honestly, the thought of my tax money going to pay for free healthcare to lazy shitums makes my stomach turn.

Regarding taxes. We're $10 trillion in debt. Something has to be done. Don't wanna pay higher taxes? Then cut spending. But that never happens, no matter who's in charge. We're a big spending country, no doubt about it. We just don't get much for the money we spend. Now if you're a private military contractor, then you get plenty.

In debt to who?

Oh thats right the Federal Reserve...I forgot.

Yes, the Federal Reserve. The enity that says all those little pieces of paper in your wallet are worth something. Wanna say the debt's not real? Then your money won't be real either.

I'm surprised at how your political opinions have changed. Not saying that anything is wrong with that. You're entitled to it. Now that I have a home and family, I've given thought to the Republican side of things. And I can't agree with it. There is no such thing as a free market. I think it's far worse for the rich to manipulate the system then it is for the poor.

On the subject of healthcare. No one really knows this but when my son was born, he had cysts in his nasal cavities that impaired his breathing. It was a 90% blockage. It was terrible watching all the tests they did on him, as you can imagine since you have your own kids. Fortunately, the operated and the cysts were cleared. Shortly after that, we started getting bills from the insurance company. We fought them all. The latest one that we got just a month ago was for 72 THOUSAND dollars. We fought that one too. But just imagine that if we were unsuccessful? I'd have practically all the equity in my house wiped out. The healthcare system in this country is an atrocity. Maybe I have a different opinion on the subject since doctor's in Poland were able to save my left leg from being amputated when I was a child. My family paid nothing for it and today I'm still able to walk.

You are right. History was made. People voted based on the "history" apsect and not the experience or character aspect. People sure made history.

McCain is one of the biggest hypocrites to come down the pipe in a while. I had no idea what to believe from him since he would say one thing this month, then say the opposite the next month. But he lost my vote when he claimed that the troops would stay in Irag until a victory was achieved! That's a load of crap right there that i would expect to hear from Bush. When thousands have already died for a meaningless war over oil it can never been a victory. There will NEVER be peace in the Middle East and the USA isn't the police force to try to get it done. We need to worry about our own Country. And Osama was never hiding in Iraq.

They will hate us over there forever and they will try to attack us again and again so i feel staying over there longer isn't going to change anything

I do place a lot of 911 blame on the Clinton administration for not doing enough to prevent the attacks when they knew damm well they were coming. Airport security was a joke and Clinton was too busy getting his dick sucked to do enough.

The government can issue it's own money and we can eliminate the middle man. Why do we have the Fed? Price stability? Yeah, that's the ticket.

Why do we have the Fed? Why do we have anything in government? So the people who run it can get rich.

I hate to disagree but this country was most definitely not built on the backs of slaves, it was built on the backs of immigrants who came here looking for better opportunites, where hard work and perseverence was rewarded more often than not.

Im sick of hearing about how we need illegals because they do the jobs that no one else wants. Since when is work optional? especially when there is work available. The fact that some people look at some jobs below them when they dont have the skillset to do anything else is preposterous. Instead , we basically tell them that its ok to take a handout instead of knuckling down and doing what you have to do. If I lost my job and there was nothing else out there, do you have any doubts about me applying down at McDonalds or doing whatever I have to do to feed my family?

Im not down with giving the really wealthy in this country tax breaks but making them give up almost half of what they earn is ridiculous. Im not down with CEO's of public entitites gettting exhorbitant salaries and insane severance packages. Personally, I think that their pay should be comensurate with how they do, If they do well, they get paid, if they screw up, cut there pay.

AS far as healthcare goes, its so much more complicated than its made out to be. Do you have any idea how much time and sacrifice goes into becoming a Doctor? I do and on top of that, the competition is immense. Do they not deserve compensation comensurate with all that they put into becoming a Dr? I have some ideas about that but in the end, its still not an easy issue...

People voted on him because they liked his policies, wanted change and also because he is black, I'll admit that. No doubt about that, but what about the people who voted McCain because he's white and didn't want a "terrorist muslim black" as our president. It's a double edged sword, ignorant people who will vote just because on either side and whether you like it or not that's their right as an American.

And I don't know if it was sarcasm or what, but countless upon hundreds of African Americans in this country have been beaten, ridiculed, lynched and treated as sub human for the past centuries, and it still happens. This is a humongous movement for all black people in the United States, if not across the world. It shows that Yes, an African American (half, but still of African Descent), can become a president of the United States. He has inspired many young men and women across the country (Same as Hilary or Palin did) to do their best because ALL possibilities are now open to them. I'm just saying man, all my years through school I read about history in texts books.. But to actually WATCH something LIVE with my own eyes, something that's tremendous to millions of people is just jaw dropping to me. I'm proud to be a part of history, and whether or not Barack will be a good/bad president; I gave him the chance. Same as people gave George W. Bush the chance, gave Bill Clinton the Chance, gave any president the chance. Barack spoke out to America and made promises and showed his policies, same as McCain and every other presidential candidate ever elected. American's across the nation agreed or believed his promises and feel they'll benefit from them. There's nothing wrong with that.

Welfare check? Listen douchebag, I'm going to school to become a State Police officer. That means I'll have 2 things; A College Degree, and a Government Job. I don't think I'll EVER make any attempt at a welfare check, thanks for assuming things you don't really know.

Some of yours will be going to the less fortunate who dont pay taxes.
who's the doucher?

I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it to protect people from injustices. I've thought about it, and talked to multiple officers about the things they do. And according to my morals and beliefs, I want to protect and serve. I want to help people, I want to protect people. Not everything in the world is about money, and If I have to pay more taxes, but can still afford to live comfortably, I don't really care.

once you are out of school and making a decent living you're going to realize that you want to keep more of your money, instead of "spreading the wealth" . Seriously, you're going to put your life on the line every day as a state trooper. Most of the people you're going to be chasing after are going to be the ones that your tax dollars are going to help get medical coverage. :aww:

I've got several friends that are either Lieutenants or Sergeants in Newark. They got in it for the same reason that you are and their minds quickly changed after they joined the force and got a taste of reality. The problem is that the government makes it hard enough to live "comfortably" (especially in NJ) that if they start taking more taxes from us here it'll be damn near impossible to afford to stay in high living expense states such as NJ.

Any higher taxes will already be spent on the copious social programs the fully Dem structure will pass. The last time there was a dem pres, house, and senate for any length of time was under Carter, that worked out well.

Carter inherited an economy that was tanking. And the one that Obama is inheriting is much worse. I actually don't think that he'll be able to fix it. No one will. However, I think and I may be wrong, that Obama will stop the bleeding.

And let's not forget about the Reagan Administration who managed to triple the national defecit. It's amazing how everyone thought Reagan was superman when his administration was one of the most corrupt this nation has seen.

I thought the Dems were in control of the house and senate during Regan???

Yes we overspend. In addition, if the Fascist Pigs in that have REALLY been in charge (and sadly will for some time)spent OUR money more wisely, we would be in far better shape as a Country and as a People. Not to mention how we are viewed by the rest of the world.

Thanks to the American Public for a change!!! . At least more than half of us have a clue!! I am so appalled at the ignorance displayed here by people who I have grown to know and thought respected. Not to say that different political views are not worthy of respect, but shee fuckin iiit!!!!!!!!!!! Some people have really shown what Biggots they are. Talk about shame... pfffftt!! later dates!!!
