Haha this thread.

Dan is a really friendly guy in real life. And is very happy to explain what he does in detail.
Send him an email with what you want and I will guarantee he will tell what he can do for you.
If you send him some links to the sound you want that might help too

You may have just stumbled onto a new word. As in, "That dude is the catsuit. He's totally cool."

If his amps sound good I respect his decision to walk around in a catsuit with really nice hair. To each there own!

I'm going against the grain here a little. I had a Killer Kali++ mod with pretty much all the mods except the clean channel. The amp started life as JCM 800 Bass Series amp. I got the amp exactly as I had requested with all the mods I wanted.

Dan is a class act all the way. He helped me find an amp in England (eBay) and worked with the seller and I to have the amp shipped to Him to rebuild it and put the mods in. Dan will bend over backwards to get the tone you're after. He's super nice, friendly, and helpful. He's a killer guitarist as well.

That being said, I just couldn't bond with the tone. In the end it wasn't for me. It was super tight and focused like a laser beam. The amp had a lot of ways to tweak the tone, but that also ended up being a problem for me. I was spending too much time trying to dial it in instead of playing. It had a ton of gain, actually maybe too much for me. I couldn't seem to get the gain at a point that it had enough for me and too little without it feeding back.

Now, the amp was shipped to me in Alabama from England. I never had the bias checked as it could've shifted on such a long trip. I did swap a lot of preamp tubes in and out, and it made small differences, but nothing eliminated that feedback. I had to get a noise gate to control it. Also, that laser beam focus was something I didn't care for. I couldn't seem to get a low end out of it that I liked. Don't get me wrong, with the depth, it could thump. But I prefer a wider, thicker bottom than the precise, ultra tight bottom the amp had. If I played in a thrash band, it would've been more my thing.

Again, to make perfectly clear, Dan's work is impeccable. He's honest, personable, and takes pride in his work. The tone just wasn't for me. I realized after owning the KK++ that I'm more of a stock boosted Marshall guy than a modded Marshall guy. I ended up getting a SLO after the KK++ and haven't looked back. Neither amp is better than the other at all. I just prefer the tone and simplicity of the SLO.
See, now this concerns me a bit...I like the low end a bit hairy and not too tight or focused sounding (wow, that sounds bad !). My benchmark Marshall tone has always been my Egnater Megadrive preamp modded (by Bruce) 2203 JCM 800. 4th preamp tube installed, plenty of gain, quiet, tube loop and big, open sound. It just lacks features (clean channel and second master or solo boost). What I really want is the second master to have it's own gain control so you have one sound for rhythm and a second, louder, dirtier sound for soloing...

I'm sure he can get you what you want. When they come up for sale, the Gowers usually have an amazing array of features. The one I had sounded great, as good as anything modded Marshall wise..just like that stock jubilee thing more.

Love the KK++!!!!

I can't say enough good things about the mods & the man behind them. Top Shelf all around! :2thumbsup:
I had Dan mod me a Jmp with the Rockmonster mod, and it seriously just destroys anything i have owned tone wise. I didn't go with loop, just direct out, as I'm running w/d/w. I loaded it with an old set of nos Rca 12ax7 pre's from the 50's and the tone is just heaven galore.

As well, i said it before and say it again, ya, you can go buy a boutique amp, or go to the big box stores and get ya something off the shelf, and that may work fine for some. However, when you have somebody of Dans caliber, and knowledge that can honestly find and build exactly what your looking for, you can't go wrong! VIVA LA' GOWER! :worship:

Also if you read deep in to the other post, you can see where metalmaniac posted how he's giving me his KK for my birthday! What a swell guy! So Excited.... :D :D :D

I've heard a few clips of his mods and they really do sound fabulous! Would love to hear one in person someday.

Yeah his mods at least the KK++ sounds killer as I never played his other mods!!!

Gower is great!!

I've had a KK++ and an Aldrich mod and still have a José. All cool amps

Come to think of it, i have heard tons of clips on the other mods, but i have only heard 2 clips on the rock monster mod, that being the metallica clip and the holy diver clip. Honestly though, thats all i needed to hear, i was sold. In person it sounds HUGE! :m17:

Hey MetalManiac93, I took your advice! I did get some of the extra Mods. That mid shift option KILLS! I also ended up doing the Saturation mod. As well i got the depth Mod. I also got Dan to do the drop gain push/pull/footswitchable mod so i can go to 4th gain stage, for all the classic/& clean stuff. Was curious, how do like the Glass mod? Really make a difference?

Any who, If i scrape up enough $$$ i may send the amp back to Dan for some extra work/mods. I didn't do the clean channel, as i just roll back volume on gain 4. I'm using a single channel but i may consider the extra Gain/Master.

I did the line out option, no Loop and i tell ya, it's the best sound i have had period. W/D/W is just amazing! I seriously don't think i could ever go back now....w/d/w spoiled me! :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:

Yeah the options are awesome. I do have all of them except my loop is a simple loop with no send or return, but I run W/D and actually bought the Mark L Line Mixer to use, which will be here soon so I will hook up the W/D/W in the near future. I do not even use the clean channel much as I do the same as you do, but wanted to have just in case. The Sat/diode clipping is not really needed as the 4th gain stage is where this amp is at along with the other options such as the feel, mid-shift, depth, etc. The feel, mid shift and depth are a must as they allow many tonal options. The Glass option is pretty much the opposite of the Depth and it adds more hair and aggression. I usually keep it half-way as I do the Feel.
