Bathory and Hellhammer were the first to do anything resembling death/black metal.
Possessed and Death were also founders but with more of a thrash approach.

Obviously I left out the basic stuff and posted some more obscure tunes from the 90's. You forgot Venom. Everything in the underground came from Venom.

The air quality was so bad last week I had a bunch of asthma attacks. AQI over 1300. It's down to like 160 today which is still bad (and I have to stay indoors) but it's slowly getting better.

Agreed about Venom igniting the underground, but I never really took Venom seriously. They were goofballs and more of a Satanic Motörhead imo. I’ll give them credit where credit’s due, but Bathory and Hellhammer brought a much more sinister, darker and authentic necro atmosphere to the scene.
I got those albums in ‘84 at age 14 and they scared tf outta me. Venom, not so much.
