After reza split there was an edict the political threads would be pulled and people given "time outs" and if it continued there would be outright bannings, BUT that has slipped away, AND the trolls have made it back in, so what does that say about "the rules" ?

Does it really bother you that much? I mean seriously does it? If you don't like something, can you not stay away? Apparently you can't because on the VERY FIRST political thread in OT...you are sharing your political opinions in a very vulgar manner, using very very vulgar language. Should you be banned now?

I didn't start the thread, and why should racist assholes have their say but no one else ? In fact, I've NEVER started a political thread ever.

Furthermore, my language is USUALLY toned to meet the dude spewing his BS, I can moderate my language for sure, and I dont think I've been fowl with, say, lester who I don't agree with politically but who also has been respectful to me...psuedodrewpeterson and chupa.cabra don't get a pass on that because they're not civil in the first place.

Who cares, if you are contributing to it...over and over, it's just as bad. You can't sit there and say you want something gone, but keep feeding into it. Lead by example if you want something done. The very first rule of the internet is DONT FEED THE TROLLS.

I'm not breaking any rule by going into someone else's thread, OR using vulgar language that YOU don't approve of, and that isn't against the rules, when vulgar language is against the rules I'll gladly stop, but politics ARE against the rules currently, so why not toss the dudes that start it ??? Then there'll be no thread to ignore. Enforce the rules as they are written. No more no less.

I agree with Dan that it can be good to have some place to field opinions on non-gear related stuff from guys you know -- help with TVs, and all that. But in its current state, that's probably 0.1% of what happens in OT.

You can ignore OT, and I've found that that's the best strategy, but you can't deny: if you were walking around town and saw an otherwise cool group of guys with just a few naked dudes running around smearing shit on each other, you wouldn't join up. And unfortunately it's pushed a lot of cool guys away that contributed a lot (to the actual, non-OT forums). I mean, it's not likely rig-talk is going to suddenly go back to the vibrant community it used to be, so maybe it's fine not to remedy it.

But I would say, if there's not going to be any political moderation, change the rules. It makes no sense to say there's no political talk allowed and then have an OT section that's like a concentrated shot of the most inane political discourse you can find outside of a YouTube comments section.

1. Stick around, continue to engage trolls and contribute to posts you say should be banned. Complain and yell into the sky about how you think things SHOULD be, and nothing changes and you stay mad forever and it doesn't matter at all. The mods have already basically said it doesn't matter to them...so all your complaints are inconsequential...no matter how much you think they should matter.

2. Stick around, but don't go into OT anymore. You won't even know the political threads are there. Come here to talk guitar gear on every other forum and have a good time.

3. Buy Rig-Talk, and enforce all rules as you see fit as owner.

4. Leave and find somewhere else.
