Not trying to hijack but, what about the MKIII was not "tight and thrashy"? To me the MKIII boosted is as tight and thrashy as you can get.

You know I was thinking the same thing. Juggernaut, you're looking for metal thrash tones and Marshalls and Mesa's have recorded the best thrash tones the world has ever heard. You don't need to spend 4k IMHO.

Just keep the Randalls and maybe get a 2203 or 2204 and call it a day.

:)

I was thinking that too. The MarkIII is the epitome of thrash in my mind.

Mike, the VH4 fucking blew me away! I haven't played a Herb so I can't judge it fairly...
The V is tight as hell and just has this amazing vibe to it that no other amp has. I think your playing style would jive with channel 3 a lot.

Tight eh?

and that is the proto, the final is tighter..................................

:D

So, I'm looking into Diezel to replace the Cameron....

You guys know my tones, VH4 or Herbert?

also looking at something that'll give me some "different" tones as well as throwing a boost if need be to get my thrashier tones (if needed)....

opinions?

I've had offers for Both the VH4 & a Herbert, as well as numerous other things, Engl being up there in competition with the Diezels....

The only way to truly know is to get them both, A/B them for a few weeks and flip the loser.

Either that or just get one and trade it back and forth for the other one like everyone else does

yeah, I know, I have a Recto coming soon, that I plan on swapping out for an 800 thats going to Gutierrez for a "special" mod... so that territory is covered, I'm wanting something more modern, + this is my first real foray into the higher end of the gear spectrum, I wanna try out the Diezels or high end Engl, or something along those lines, get alittle more of a taste of whats up here, I've only watched and listened to guys play, time to get a small taste for myself. ;)

yeah that thing is just pure sex in a box, not nice romantic sex, rough bondage, chains and whips sex. :D I'd kill to get my hands on one of those, I'd take it over the FBM all day long.....

Seriously cannot recommend the Chimera enough too Mike or the Hydra. I especially think you would like the Hydra, it sorta reminds me of a mesa inspiration somehow.

I really want to investigate them in the future myself, but its too expensive for my blood as a college student.

...Hell come to think of it all of the amplifiers listed in this thread are :aww:

BTW, think when Evergrey was recording the Inner Circle album, they were using Mesa Triaxis+Peavey 50/50 combos, FWIW.

What the hell happened with you and the CCV...??!!?!?!?!

As for the Herbert and the VH4... Tough call man, but I'd say tightness is owned by the VH4.

Curve ball into this is the Hagen if you MUST go with a Diezel. Herbert is nu-metal territory, more or less the same menu and palette as the Uberschall TJ if we had to compare one brand to another; albeit the Herbert's got way more range - IMHO. VH4 is surgically tight...I have no idea what this bit about sag is, it's dry and tight, but loaded with overtones and a nice 3D sound. Hagen is the new kid on the block - and for my purposes, it slays. But that's not to say it'll be everyone's cup of tea.

Fortin and DAR are definite contenders.

But ya, still puzzled as to what the f*ck happened to the Cameron Honeymoon.

Peace,
Mo

Give a Rhodes Colossus a whirl. Would probably be right up your alley.

VH-4 is way tighter than the Herbert... I had a HUGE Diezel affair for quite awhile, and sometimes I get slammed for making this comparison, but the Herbert is a lot like a mixed and mastered Rectifier, only the sound is coming straight from the cab... the Herbert isn't QUITE as loose as a Rectifier, but it is by no means as tight as the VH-4...

That being said... I still think the Herbert is the amp for you out of the 2.

I own a VH4 and a Herbert...There is NO question in regards to "tightness": The VH4 IS a tighter amp...But they are both fantastic for different reasons. I don't know how you really felt about the Cameron (that you are now replacing)...But if you generally liked the overall vibe of that amp, but would like some Diezel flavor, then I recommend trying out both the Hagen and VH4. I find that the Herbert fits better with fans of Bogners and Mesa Recto series amps. If a somewhat "Maershallesque" flavor is what you are after, I would start with the Hagen as it is the most Marshall sounding Diezel (in my opinion). In regards to the VH4: No amp really sounds, or responds the way that it does. It is the most unique sounding high gain amplifier that I have ever experienced. The good news in that Herbert, Hagen and VH4 all boast amazing versatility. Just my thoughs.

Rhodes may be a great amp, but are you willing to try and get out from under if it ain't? Been one in classifieds for long time now.

I don't think the Diezels will be the ticket either, but atleast they're an easy flip.
