Playing covers incorrectly doesn’t make you original. What it mostly does is get you low paying gigs or no gigs.
That's why I like blues....you can put your own spin on it and if it sounds good that's all that will matter. Standards vs "covers".

I just tried that and it was off to my ear so I looked it up. It is in standard tuning. I'm still not playing it correct according tabulature.
Ah yeah. You drone on the D string while bending the A string. I think it is in standard tuning.

It's been awhile. I just worked it out again. It's definitely in standard tuning but you bend up on the A string (D) and strike the A and D string ( open) in unison.

When you guys were over I was showing you how I tried the whole 7 - 5 - 7 - 5 thing on the E and A sting and that even though I could do it - it was just awkward. I like doing it on the A string only going 2- 5 - 2 - 5. I felt it was easier to hammer on and bend that way. I'll have to practice the whole D string portion. I made this 30 second clip for @SmuggNorris for one of his chug threads. On a 1 watt amp

Can't remember which way I played it actually.

I tend to agree with those who have said 'if it sounds right, do it that way you do it.' I genuinely believe that there are certain techniques that some folks just cannot do (I raise my own hand...) due to neurological hard wiring. If the way you have figured out to play a certain passage sounds closer to what you are hearing than the technically 'correct' way, go with it. Especially for an older player who is close to or even beyond their theoretical '10,000 hours' of playing guitar.

Last year, I tried - unsuccessfully - to move from strict economy picking to strict alternate picking. Maybe with more time and repetitions I would have over-written my economy picking hard wiring??? But I know for a fact that it temporarily robbed me of what little joy I still derive from playing guitar. When I want back to my economy picking, I could do the things that put a smile on my face. Now I practice with extra focus on making the timing and rhythm of the economy pick strokes match the inside alternate pick strokes for a more convincing 'alternate picking' sound when playing single note passages.

I believe you have me confused with @ChuggNorris or perhaps @ÇhuggƝorrìs. I don't participate in the "chug threads", only the "smooth soulful yacht rock threads", but sadly, they aren't very popular around here. It's as if these people here have never played on an amp built by Ken Fischer or Alexander Dumble. They wouldn't know tone if an Alembic bit them right in their butts.

Looking forward to some smooth lydian jazz licks in from you in the neo-soul guitar showdown. A small prize is up for grabs, not that a man of your financial standing would care, but I think Preston would be proud of you if you won it so some bragging rights down at the yacht club are at stake. Break out that Private Reserve and lay it down Smuggy!
