Thought about it. Can't do it with a 2-piece maple neck. Want my one-piecer and a skunk stripe. Will probably wait for the new Pro Mods.

The evh does have a 1-piece maple neck as in cut from the same piece of wood. Outside of original '50s Fenders, I don't know of too many maple boarded necks that don't have a glued on finger board. I would think that the charvel has the exact same construction as the evh. The skunk stripe is usually an aesthetic touch...
I dunno man... all of my 21 fret Charvel Custom Shop guitars are solid 1-piece birdseye maple with no glued on finger board. I have 4 of them, all made since 2006...

All the 22 fret Charvel Custom Shops I have that are all maple have glued on finger boards though...

I think any 22 fret neck you get from Charvel/Fender is gonna be 2-piece (glued on finger board), skunk stripe or not - just seems to be the way they do it...

Steve

I stand corrected. But those are custom shop pieces...As you said, a typical production type guitar would most likely have a separate finger board. My '82 Kramer maple boarded neck is a true one-piece as well but they only did that for a short period of time.

I haven't read the whole thread so am not sure of the context for this statement, but my Tele is 1 piece maple.

The non-pointys in the front and the spiral checkerboard star are all 21 fret and solid 1-piece:

EDITED AGAIN: I have no idea what I'm talking about. Just played my 22 fret pointy tribal skull guitar and and it is one piece...

HA! Thanks - look at it this way - the Jake replica, white/black spiral checkerboard strat and the Explorer pointy have been sold since this picture was taken... Still have the other 5... Yes, the white one is my favorite guitar and is a Music Zoo Nitro Aged...

Maybe I just can't see it, but my MIJ So Cal is a 1 piece quartersawn with a skunk stripe and no separate fingerboard. I guess I just prefer that for some reason.

Wow, those are great looking Charvels! Love that white one on the left. I have a few old 2 hum Kramer Pacers, but always wished they just had one knob like yours, as I never use the 2 tone knobs.

I've only got one Charvel, but it's a pretty good one I think... ;)

Correct. ALL the Pro Mods, both USA and Japanese that were maple necks were 1 pc maple. All the 22 fret necks that we order through the custom shop are 1 pc maple too. We can get it as a 2-pc, but we prefer the 1 pc ones to be more like the original strat heads.

That being said, I think we are all splitting hairs here. Id be tempted to say if it's good enough for Edward, I should probably be OK with it for myself. But Eddie is not a forum guy. What the heck does he know? ;)

I would guess most Wolfgangs are also 2-piece, otherwise how would they get the graphite rods in there as reinforcement?

I don't think it's any cheaper to do a glue on board, right? And, I bet it would make the neck stronger to have the board glued on as a separate piece?

Of course my next question is - how does the EVH compare to the Charvel Art series???

If there's a question tone regarding one piece or glued fingerboards, I'd say it's moot. Nothing at all wrong with glued fingerboards. I'd guess there are more glued board guits out there than not.

Yeah, I mean, otherwise everyone would want rosewood necks who like rosewood boards, there'd be no rosewood boards on maple...

Holy Crap! That's pretty cool. Where about in Atlanta are you?? I'm down in Fayette County (PTC to be exact).

It looks like the EVH striped series necks are constructed just like all the Peavey and EVH Wolfgang necks. 1 piece maple with a glued on fretboard and the graphite reinforcing rods with the wheel adjustment at the heel.

Thanks. -- I'm in Duluth. Did you catch VH when they were at Phillips Arena last year?

Man I wanted one of them EVH custom striped guitars bad.

They still pop up on Ebay once in a while. How cool is that owning a guitar that Eddie personally striped then played in a show.

Unfortunately, no  I went to the first show of the reunion with dave in Charlotte in '07 then caught them in Atlanta. I would have rather gone to the one last year since Ed was in much better form but I was out of town for work...

Any updates from you EVH Striped owners???

Still enjoying mine a ton. Only complaint is that the pickup is mounted too high. Another guy noticed the same on his and chipped off some paint in the pocket underneath it to lower it a bit. Wishing I had thought to do that when I had mine apart. I'm hitting it with the pick a lot at the low E, and it's likely to start tearing up the ribbon that goes around it.

Also, another thing I've noticed.... and I posted this elsewhere, but it seems some have rear-mount nuts and some have the top mount. Not sure why that is.

Leftover rear mount Floyd nut? I can't think of any other reasons... All new guitars should be built with top mount Floyd nuts IMHO...
