In my top 10 all time.
You have the Ohmphrey stuff?
No, but I do own a few Ohm albums, I love the first Ohm album a lot, as well as the Live at KPFK one (i think that's what it's called?). His playing is great on those albums, and he's progressed a lot as a player since his Megadeth days. My favorite Lamb Of God solo is his guest solo in "Purified" too.

I agree.
Working with the Umphrey's McGee guys pushed him even further I think. You gotta get this album.

Poland's solo is at 2:20 - he sounds a ton like Holdsworth at the beginning.

I like Mustaine’s solo’s. There’s an aggressiveness and lack of polish to them that Marty would never pull off. He’s the K.K. To Marty’s Tipton. His style always bring Megadeth back to its aggressive non-mainstream roots. Those glorious “Fuck those guys, I’ll show ‘em” years…lol

We just take Tornado for granted because we’ve heard it a gazillion times but it’s still a maestro moment of composition in melody and pacing and structure. I’ll always say it’s a landmark solo. Marty certainly has more than a few with Megadeth, especially through RIP.
I feel the same way with the solo from Beyond the Realms of Death. Heard it a million times and just love it every single time.
I never took it for granted. It’s for me one of the best solos of all time in metal/hard rock along with No More Tears & the 1st solo in Mr Crowley. There are so few guitar solos or any leadwork period that actually has the emotional depth to truly be moving and those are among the few that can, so we can’t afford to take those few for granted. Too many players imo adapted that mindless noodly gobbly-gook style of leadwork and gimmicky fx that inspired many sadly, but thankfully Marty had more taste in his leads

Come on man, Mustaine's leads aren't that bad. He's got that chaotic let er loose kinda vibe going. I mean the main solo in Holy Wars is Mustaine's and it rips, also his lead in Wake Up Dead, that lead kills as well, the one at the end of the song. Another good one, The Conjuring. Go and listen to that one. That's the most evil solo in existence.
To each their own. I guess they’re at least better than much of Hammet or EVH’s leads lol, but they remind me compositionally/note choice wise of the kind of leads most teens (myself included) would try to write back in my high school years. It only sounds evil to me the way maybe a teen thinks he’s writing something dark or evil. I don’t feel something from them like I do from a good example of Friedman or RR. Mustaine obviously wrote great songs & riffs, just not a lead guy imo. I actually really like that he’s going for a more chaotic, let it loose styles, it’s actually very much my style, but the quality imo just isn’t there. They’re not cohesive enough imo in telling a story. Even Marty’s brief leads in Hangar 18 had that going for them as well as Chris Poland’s brief leads in Peace Sells

He has the best phrasing ever .Everyone always says tornado of souls is his best solo but ALL of his solos in Hangar 18 just are just a whole ball game above tornado . Literally every lick is original and from outer space
I think they’re both similarly great. I wouldn’t say either is better. I feel like Hangar 18’s leads are like this collection of super tasty appetizers, while Tornado is like this one big entree

I do like both a lot but hangar 18 just sounds so original

Lol I don’t hate Dave’s playing . He has some feel that comes across well but he’s definitely sloppy .
I can agree there. The musical ideas themselves for his leads just aren’t convincing for me. Imho there were a bunch of players with great feel & technique, but their musical ideas again just weren’t cutting it for me (Lane, Govan, Becker, Graham). I guess Marty is in some ways closest to having it all for me since he can also write great musical ideas in his leads. Surprisingly rare skill somehow, but not like I have it either (I just play classical guitar really)

I agree that it’s more original & unique, but still tornado of souls to me is so iconic, almost timeless and for me has more of that effect of giving me goosebumps like with the No More Tears solo or 1st Mr Crowley solo

I actually haven’t heard that one. Listened to it on YT now. Fun song! I’d have to hear the solo a few times to digest it more fully, but on initial listen I hear a few cool licks in there, but doesn’t seem to hold together as well in telling a cohesive story like the No More Tears solo and just the way that solo builds to its climax with its cinematic nature makes it timeless for me. For me personally, it’s even more moving than Marty’s best solos, but if Marty himself played the No More Tears solo I might like it even more lol

No more tears rukes . The song SIN gets me in party mode

Also Marty’s solos in Go to Hell have some great phrases too

Can't say how many hours I spent listening to Scenes by Marty. Haven't in years, but it was a fav back in the day.

I think this applies to most people but I think everybody has a unique preference. Some player’s musical ideas just reach each one of us a little differently. Of all those guys you mentioned I find Govan to be the most interesting but I can see anybody preferring any of the others. I’ve always loved Marty because his style is unique and killer.
