Another awesome Marty and Dave collab is Ashes In Your Mouth. Great solo but one of my favorite rhythm passages they have ever done. It’s just so metal and so galloping groovy all at the same time.

The highlight of the album IMO. That album is very hit or miss to me.

Another thing….Christ those remasters (remixes) are just a horror show, especially with what they did to Nick’s snare. I always loved how natural his drums sounded and how it let his dynamics come through and they made it sound like a Superior Drummer nightmare.

Oh yeah. It’s like this weird metal classic anomaly on what seems to be an attempt to go a little “Black”. Check out this awesome version. Dave had put on a little weight and Marty had starting identifying as a Transginger but they still brought it.

Dude, I remember that, when Marty identified as transginger, it was a super heavy and deep moment in music. He declared to the world, that in his heart of hearts, he was indeed, a ginger. Mustaine was super pissed and argued that he was in fact, a real ginger in his heart and on his head by birth! Thus, the crack formed that would eventually spiral into an irreparably damaged band that would end the Marty era of the band.

Yup, You had a ginger from birth who had fought all their life for Ginger acceptance and equality and then someone who didn’t fight that fight comes in at the finish line and takes your place on the podium of rock!…lol

Tornado is a just a perfect solo and one he plays a lot so naturally that's the one that had staying power. There isn't a bad Marty solo on that entire album or on Countdown, you can pick anything of his really. I mean Symphomy of Destruction is also pretty awesome and very singable. Those solos tend to stick.

When I was in high school in 87', my drummer and I walked into a record shop and I bought Jason Becker's first solo album and he bought Marty Friedman's. We were both blown away hearing that amazing stuff.

One of my friends went to high school with Marty in Hawaii. He showed me photos of Marty playing at recess and everyone sitting around listening to him.

I could see remastering some of the older albums because the originals can be really hard to listen to on a modern sound system but the fact that they touched RIP, Countdown or even Youthanasia at all is a crime. RIP IMO is not an incredible album production wise but it’s such an important album that the remaster is almost sacrilegious. The original Countdown sounds so fucking good and was engineered and mixed so well it actually pisses me off that you can hardly hear it anymore anywhere.

I think every asshole that wants to issue a remaster should be required to provide with it the original master as well.

i saw marty play live a few times when he lived on Oahu, gave lessons to two of my friends regularly, and caught him once a few years later in cali with Jason Becker for Cacophony.

He was always well respected locally, and trying to do something different thus the japanese bends and scales versus yngwie’s school of bach. plus his chick was japanese. i wasn’t a marty fan in the early days as it seemed he was trying so hard to be recognized and his tone was pretty crsppy. his hair always reminded me of horshack with extesions.

but this clip the OP shared was pretty impressive and probably my fave marty shred to date!

Indeed, a true outrage and the greatest heights of ginger injustice. I heard Dave was waiting to be declared, “the pREDator,” by the music world as a testament to his red rage after insisting he put the red in incREDible. Marty then told everyone that Dave put the red in inbRED and Dave roared wit the ginger fury of a mad orangutan and quietly demanded marty leave the band.

Artists do need to grow and unfortunately don’t always grow together
