Skoora I would look at a Strategy 400 or 500 to use with a Mesa Quad Preamp. The Mark amps voice always reminds me of the 6L6 thing. If your not using stereo effects I would just use the Mark V or Tremoverb poweramp. Maybe run both.

I think your right. My MK V has 34’s In it but I still run the T-Verb with 6L6’s. Running the pre into both those heads could be fun. Hopefully I don’t get into ground differential hell though...lol
Then I can bide my time on a good deal on a PA. Realistically I don’t need more than a 50 watt PA, not playing out. The idea of having a Strategy 400 in the basement is pretty funny...and awesome at the same time.

I have a Strategy 400 and added a push/pull depth pot to each channel. Talk about massive sounding...

This is great news. I never get tired of hearing about new rackmount poweramps. Or old ones.

Sounds monstrous. Have you ever compared yours with a 500?

Theres a video of Steve Fryette demoing it at namm. I'd love to test drive it , to see how it stacks up against my vht 2150 & classic.Looks awesome!

I haven’t, but a friend had the 500 and Coliseum power amps and always preferred the S400, so based on that, I got an S400 and called it a day. The one I have has presence and volumes on the front. The depth pots were placed in the 2ohm jacks.

Sounds pretty cool. I've never had a chance to A/B them either but have heard great sounds from both. Is it your daily driver?

I use the S400 for my wet/dry/wet power amp. I do switch it out with an HH V800 as well. But yeah, it’s used quite often.

It rattles stuff off the wall in my place and the neighbors. I live across the street from the airport in Seatac. That and I am lucky enough to have neighbors that like the music I play. Only volume restriction I have here is how much do I want my ears to ring.

@psychodave: I have a Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 power amp with the volume & presence knobs on the front myself. How did you mod the 400 power amp to have a push/pull depth pot on it? Who did the mod for you?

After he mentioned it, I looked and saw it discussed in this thread: https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2206819

Hopefully he'll have some time to come back to this thread with some more detail.
