Gear plans 2026

Im watching videos and its making my cro magnon brain hurt
Yeah I do electrical engineering and software (mostly firmware really) for a living so it's pretty much right down my alley but I can understand it making brains hurt.

DAW design in general is not intuitive and Reaper is not the most intuitive DAW. But it does get shit done professionally nearly for free. Even the built-in plugins have grown on me over time.

Maybe one of the new 70s LP Customs, or a Norlin with a maple neck to go with my '85s. Interested in the Bogner 104 XTCs as well, waiting to hear how the gold-voiced one sounds.

Ordered a new E drum kit last night, should be able to cover my issues I was having with my other kit. Dedicate time to learn to play it.

Gear wise, there are a couple of guitars I would like, but I havnt had much GAS in the past several months and hopefully I can keep it that way for a while.

I do want to upgrade my studio monitors, my T7Vs are good enough for now, but I want something that will get louder for when I have company, more of a midfield.

My 2026 goals:

Down size what I dont use.
Actually use the shit I have bought.
Continue with me guitar lessons and practice, 2025 I saw the most growth in my playing since the first year I started.
Write and record my own music.
Get back to playing with other people.

Lets see if by writing all this, I can hold myself accountable to it.

Lots of gigs already booked for 2026 and I suspect a few more will be added throughout the year. Gonna be the busiest year for me in 15 or so years.

EDIT - I didn’t even mention gear plans. I have four guitars up for sale now and may sell more next year. I’m pretty good on amps. If I can keep myself busy gigging, I will probably cut down on my impulse purchases.

highly recommended

I've been on the fence for a while, but I have wanted to try one at least. I had a DSL100 for a long time that served me well. I figured if I can't get some good Marshall tones from this 4 channel amp, then something's wrong with me. Only thing I don't like is that it's almost 50 lbs. Any 100 watt head seems to weight about 47 lbs at least it seems. I really want a 50 watt Marshall, but the JVM205 is missing what many call the best gain channel. JVM seems to draw a lot of strong opinions though -- some say it's very artificial sounding, some say it's very much like previous Marshalls.

There's just something about my BE50 that doesn't quite do the Marshall thing like I remember it with the DSL100. I was using an SD1 with that amp, and it was magical with that combo. Strange thing is, I just recently played a DSL100 (new one) at GC, and it was super muddy. I tried 5 different guitars and it was just different flavors of mud. I don't remember my DSL sounding like in the past.

My Mark IV is not going anywhere. Every time I plug in to that amp, it's such a pleasure to experience.

You will certainly find the JVM to be less polished / produced than the Friedman and I am a former DSL owner that boosted it on occasion as well; I prefer the JVM410H for that hot-rodded style of Marshall tones as well. I don't agree that the JVM series presents as overly "sterile" or "artificial", but I do understand why some that are used to a vintage 70's or 80's Marshall head may find those amps to be a bit more gritty and organic sounding. As I have written previously in my review of this amp: If you are a hardcore Plexi, JCM800, or Jose Mod purist...Then buy those amps. But, if you want a Marshall head that covers 80% of what all those amps do and also has a very good dedicated clean, then the JVM410H is going to be tough to beat.

I have 30 guitars and 11 amps…picked out 6 guitars and 6 amps I’m going to put on consignment at a local store. I’ve been playing the Synergy/KSR PA-100R more than anything and loving it best. So going to expand my Synergy pallet.

Going to try to not buy too much. I have a Tom Anderson Arch Angel arriving Friday, so after that one…

Mainly planning to get better and keep recording and releasing songs. Start going to bed at a decent hour and wake up early to practice and exercise before work, tough for me though.
