James, have you by chance used the Crunchy PAT in a Strat/alder type guitar?

Yes, I currently have one in a guitar like that. The other is in a mahogany/SG style guitar. It sounds great in both guitars.

I tried the Fat Pats.

Ah. I haven't tried that one. I've tried more classic type pickups, and higher output pickups, but not that one. Maybe because its description reminded me of the Duncan Custom 5, which sounded scooped or perhaps "dry/dark" to me.

We're mostly talking about the Crunchy PAT here, so that's why I didn't understand what you meant.
Thanks, I want to order one but I don't see an option for a F-Spaced model..? Did you just specify that in the comments section when you ordered yours?

The spacing is wide enough. I think they use a somewhat "medium" spacing with good sized pole pieces, so it can work well in either a guitar with tight string spacing or F spacing. The spacing is 53mm from center to center of the low and high E, and the outside measurement of the polepiece area is 57mm.

I put a set of Lil' Killers in a guys strat and ugraded all the electronics at the same time (CTS, Switchcraft, etc.). They didn't sound as defined as SD Hot Rails to me. A little muddy I thought.

However, I have a FatBody neck pickup in my tele and have yet to find one that sounds better.

No experience with the humbuckers, but they make so many different models I'm sure something can come close to what you need.

If you hadn't tried lowering the pickup into the body a bit more than you usually do, you might've missed out on hearing the pickup sounding more defined. Depending on the pickup and guitar, sometimes my pickups end up about 3/8" below the strings.
