But if I get an amp I’ll have to get a cab too, and I’m trying to get rid of those
Cheap solid state pawn shop combo.

Flatwounds will completely change the sound, have higher tension, and a bit more pain in the ass for slapping. I don't personally
care for them on fretted instruments. If I want to tame the brightness I go with nylon wound. YMMV.

If you have an FRFR, I recommend having a look at the Trace Elliot Transit-B.

Never liked flatwounds, especially on fretless, flatwounds sound dull and lifeless IMO.

i'm a full on kemper goon now. the bass sounded pretty good through studio monitors so I'll probably just stick with that for a bit. Building a bass tube amp might be fun though, just for the sake of doing something new

It's funny, because that's where I do like them :ROFLMAO:
Definitely agree, mostly dull, but have their uses.

No flats dude. Just don’t.

Get a Comfort Strapp if you plan on standing with it for long.

Spector NS4 Mike Starr signature

‘89 Ampeg SVT II non pro w/ my infamous “ Eat Shit” cab, a ‘96 “ Dark era” 810cl. Both made in St. Louis when Ampeg was owned by SLM.

Flats rule for anything but chug. Flats on a P-Bass is the most legend bass arrangement ever.
That’s complete bullshit. Unless by chug you mean everything besides MoTown, jazz or classic rock.

I like to be able to get the metallic "spark" on fretted basses ( DD Verni is a good example of the sound) from roundwounds.

Fretless is more mellow, so the roundwounds give it more mid "snap"
I’m could never sit in a mix in a way I was happy with using flats. Not in my hard rock/alt 3 piece. I have a p with flats I used in Hookman.

Ric 4003 is still my favorite bass, but my Ibanez fretless 5-string is versatile, sounds great and is a blast to play.

Finally selling my original Steinberger XL-2 bass, from '88, that I purchased new. Not in a hurry tho

If you can't get a P-Bass with flats to sit in the mix there is something wrong with the rest of your rig.

You clearly aren’t a bass player.

Post a clip of your band doing Down Rodeo with a p bass and flats.
