P/J are a close second for me, but nothing beats a MM Stingray.
Stingrays are cool too

You can't find a p-bass with low end punch? Where are you shopping for guitars? Guitar center?

It had low end, but it wasn't punchy.

Tubby, in fact.

Bear in mind that it was a '73 sunburst...

I know too many asswipes with a jazz bass trying to be Jaco. The last couple bassists I've worked with I told "I'm paying you because you bring a P-Bass to the gig". Only acceptable substitute is the stringray. Nothing pisses me off more than a drummer who can't hold time and a bassist with a thin, reedy, poppy j-bass tone. Slap chops was a informercial, not a way to play bass.

Identical position to mine sis'.

I can't get the woody tone I used to get from my '73 Precision back in the day but I don't miss it. I'll take the low-end punch over that any day of the week.
I honestly have too many basses, but really the beatle bass I have is my least favorite and is going on the chopping block. I thought it would be charming in a lo-fi kind of way, but it's just uninspiring and kind of clunky to play, tbh. Though I recently scored a late 89/90ish Kip Winger Jackson that I've been digging a lot.

Just admit you have a Paul McCartney pillowcase and comforter.

LOL! That was actually what I was thinking about when I posted. My sister had the bed set with NKOTB on it. We used to give her mad shit about that and about recording all the "Family Matters" episodes. Shit I hate that stupid show.
Did iiiii do that?
