If you´re thinking about that six-position mid frequency dial Lee got that from Paul Rivera back in the 70s, it´s pretty handy to find the right nuance for the right guitar but not a drastic thing. But maybe he does more off the wall stuff than that too, I´m not really familiar with his work apart from the extra tube.
Exactly! I didn't know he got that from Paul Rivera.

I wish I was better with schematics etc., where I could look an analyze what quirks he got going on this his mods. Seems like the end result can sometimes be polarizing.

Some love his amps/mods, some are very vocal about their dislike. I'm sure there are so many different examples, that are different and sound different, that I would be hesitant to like or dislike with such a broad brush.

What was the mod that Lee Jackson did on Paul Gilbert's Marshall ? Supposedly it is différent than his standard mod.

This is so true of the internet era of guitar. Broad strokes of hyperbole from people who have minimal experience with the thing they are talking about.

There are so many ways to get a good sound, the people who keep running into bad sounds aren't really saying much about the gear.

Who, exactly, has painted literally anything on this thread with a broad brush?

I'm a mod so I can't have anyone blocked, so there isn't any chance i've missed a comment

In the thread, there are a wide variety of opinions on Lee Jackson stuff people like - including the perfect connection (which I owned and gigged with for many years) crate stealth (which I and many others have owned, or in some cases still do judging by the pics on the thead) and his marshall mods (which I haven't owned or played but many seem to be high on them in the comments)

The only opinion that seems to be widely agreed on is the that Metaltronix is overrated, doesn't sound how you would think, doesn't sound like zakk wylde at all, and is wildly loud compared to it's contemporaries around the same era - but even that isn't a "broad brush" opinion, because I and everyone else who commented was confused about how underwhelming it sounded compared to his great successes of the past. Whether the stealth, mods, PC, or any number of the other amps he's designed.

I didn't see a single comment where someone said "i haven't played it and it sucks" and there isn't a single comment saying "i keep running into bad sounds, and somehow the metaltronix is emblematic of that"

So I'm WILDLY confused at what the fuck youre talking about man

I remember NAMM back when Zakk Wylde hit the scene. I heard this fucking amazing tone so I started walking in that direction. As I got closer, I saw that it was the Metaltronix booth. The Laney booth was next to Metaltronix and those Laney guys looked depressed as hell because the Laney amps sounded like transistor radios compared to the Metaltronix gear.

I also got to shoot the shit with Dave Meniketti at the Metaltronix booth. Very cool dude.

I'm not saying in this thread, rather the guitar "scene" in general.

Breathe fella!

Hmmm. I'm in my mid-sixties now. I was in my early 20's when the Metaltronix stuff came out and I first heard 'em in person a few years later at NAMM when Zakk hit the airwaves. A lot of people liked 'em. They're not the mega gain beasts that are commonplace now, but they impressed a helluva lotta people back in the day, which was almost 40 years ago. YMMV. :dunno:

Okay that makes WAY more sense

I was so utterly confused that I honestly thought I was missing part of the conversation, or that I had someone blocked and their comments weren't showing up (which would mean the mod tools aren't working correctly)

That was the only way I could make sense of it in my head

Those amps can benefit from some different effects, too, and these days no one bats an eye about running an SD-1 or an EQ or a Sonic Maximizer, etc into their amps. Zakk used a Yamaha SPX90 on the Symphonic patch to shape his tone and damn, that boy's sound kicked ass. Tone is often like makin' good Gumbo: the right ingredients in the right amount, that makes all the difference. BTW, My wife is from New Orleans and she makes the best damn Gumbo on the planet.
