For Marshalls current wait time is around two years with no guarantee he will ever get to you (wait list only). Mesas and 8-ish weeks if I recall.

I love those old tube PA rebuilds he does, and a Sound City PA 120 came up for sale locally cheap with great vintage glass in it so I bought it… only to find out he won’t do the big PA rebuilds anymore, too time consuming. Bummer.

That's a HUGE difference between Marshalls and Mesa wait period...8 Weeks? I wonder why.

The Mesa mods are alot faster was on his list for his own amps but that’s dead in the water his Marshall wait list is out of control , the Mesa mods take him no time and it’s still a good chunk of change but he’s a solid dude and very transparent , he quoted me the same recently 1200 plus shipping import fees

OK, that makes some sense. Am I understanding you correctly that his custom amp line does not appear to be happening?

He told me the custom amp were still in the works, but it wasn't clear when.

Distracted myself from work for a minute and made a really nasty iPhone Mic clip comparing the modded dual rec vs. my Headfirst Alta. It actually reflects the difference in sound in the room pretty well.


The odd thing about this is that the Alta's controls are set fairly conventionally (Bass 3 Middle 4 Treble 6 Depth 6 Presence 3, Modern Mode, Bright 1) the dual rec is set to modern mode, presence 0, bass 4, mid 8, treble 3. So you can see how much I'm pulling back the presence treble to keep it in line.

I do have a 3 GS on a 69 50w Marshall, a 5 GS on a 79 Super Bass and a 5 GS + 3 GS on a 81 JMP 2203.
I'm also saving for a Rectifier mod and for one of his own amps.
He is making some of the best sounding amps out there, and his customer service is nothing short of perfect.

i had him build my amp four years ago now because he was supposedly done with mods then to focus on his own amps, I know I saw transformers and other parts being made but that was a while ago now too

His transformers are the most enormous harbingers of impending glorious tone there are! I suspect he might be attempting some sort of thermonuclear reaction or maybe even fusion in order to quantify and harness tone on an entirely new level, and with his ingenious designs, i believe he will do it! The amp will double as a power source that can power entire cities.

Almost a year for the first one, and a little over a year for the second.
The other great thing is the fact he don't ask you for an advanced payment just to hold your place in line. And when he tells you it's your amps turn, and the date it'll be done, it will be done by that date. He honors his words.
Because of that, the quality of his work and the tone they deliver, I would gladly wait as long as it takes to get one.

I’d say the same however I only have so long to live so “ as long as it takes “ doesn’t calculate ?‍
