The time remaining for their money to mean anything to them is falling away like sands in the hourglass, and it's almost done. There are more important things than money. For both of them, I think ego is #1. Otherwise, you'd think they could have eventually learned to keep their fat mouths shut on stage more often by their elderly years and instead do what they are good at...... This applies to a lot of "entertainers", especially those who used to be "artists", but became nothing than expensive juke boxes in their later years.

I have no doubt ego is NOT #1 for Hetfield. I think he is genuinely thankful that he has been able to make people happy by sharing his music.
