Hot rodded Marshall type amps...I need help

This might be out of left field but I think I'm gonna give the 5150III el34 a shot. It's easy enough to return if I don't like it. I really liked the 6L6 model I just had but I do realize there are differences. Anyone with experience with the EL34 head have any advice/tips etc...?

Have you thought about getting a stock Marshall modded? Plenty of options there.

Getting a good Marshall mod made me dump the rest of my Marshall flavored amps. Once you find that Marshall tone that works for you,you can look at the other various cool flavors out there.

The rabbit hole that is Marshall flavored tone is crazy deep.

Was just going to suggest this.
Had both 6L6 stealth and now got the EL34 stealth.
This amp will do it all very well.
It’s more razor tone in your face where the 6L6 was a sledge to the sternum.
Absolutely love mine.

I would grab the 100w as the 50w blue channel is a bit flubby unless you throw a boost in front. The 100w is tight without a boost.

I would grab the 100w as the 50w blue channel is a bit flubby unless you throw a boost in front. The 100w is tight without a boost.

Matters what you call flubby. Some people prefer a little sag. The 50w is far from flubby.

The 6L6 50 watt on the blue channel is pretty tight without a boost. I haven't had or played the EL34 version but I've heard the blue channel was flubby

I'm talking about the EL34 50w...not the 6L6. When I played one, it was a little flubby in the low end on the blue channel. But I'd be fine with it, I boost everything anyway.
I did like the EL34 50w much better than the 2 50w 6L6 versions I had 4 yrs ago though.

That rabbit hole is deep indeed.

I'm a huge Marshall fan. Personally love just about anything recorded on a Marshall. Don't take that to mean I need anyone going out and finding some crap stuff recorded on a Marshall...you know what I mean

My point is though, by the time you find a decent old used Marshall and get it modded with what you want it gets to a point of diminishing returns and quite possibly diminishing value. You know what I'm saying? Not to mention things like clean channels and parallel loops and footswitchable boosting, etc. And that's assuming you got a good 'donor' to begin with.

(not trying to take away from any marshall modders on this site - most of these guys do exceptional work with excellent references. That and Scott Splawn started out modding Marshalls)

This is also a bit out there but what would the consensus on the Mark V 25 be? Does the crunch channel get into the Marshall-esque ballpark? I keep gravitating towards that amp lately because of the options it has over most others. I know it has fantastic cleans with reverb, that's a huge bonus and we all know the high gain sounds it has. Just seems like a good fit, not exactly the hot rodded marshall I came into this thinking about but likely the most usable format.

I wouldn't think you would be happy with any Mesa Mark series if you're looking for a hot tossed Marshall tone.
