How much difference can a compressor really make?

I'd consider them mandatory for funk and country/twang, but mostly for the genre-specific character they bring to the tone. Otherwise, meh.

That’s what everyone says but I’ve never wanted one. Even for funk bass. It’s not like that’s my strong suit though or anything. I like to control dynamics with my fingers. Gotta have the right amp and bass though. Which I do.

Keeley Compressor + instead of a overdrive pedal with a Zuul+. Amp set anything from clean to high gain. Control over the envelope and saturation.

I like compressor for cleans or maybe use to add compression to say my 78 2203 just because with high gain amps if today they don’t need it.Too much already
