Had to let the Edwards LP go to pay some debts down so it got sold last weekend. I actually didn't lose too much dough on it and it wasn't getting played anyways. This is the fewest axes I've ever had since I was in my early 20's. I'm kind of indifferent to non-gigging axes anymore but a blues jam guitar tuned to E standard would be convenient since I hate tuning my gigging axes to E standard. Maybe a PRS SE one day. Until then I have everything I need to get the job done. Just the basics with a couple ES style axes.

I've been thinking about a purge lately myself. I have way too much crap.
A dude yesterday told me he had accumulated over 150 guitars and was trying to get it down to under 100. I can't imagine dealing with that many instruments. Just the space alone required to store them...it'd be like a whole bedroom in a house.

I used to have a box of pickups and of other pedals but I went through it all and sold everything. If it doesn't get used, I don't need it. All I possess for guitar gear now is critical moneymaking items. Mainly redundant stuff in case something breaks. Two ES', two Twin Reverbs, etc. Even my wife sold off a bunch of her guitars. Now if I could just get her to get rid of her guitar strap and boot collection it'd be 100% handled, LOL.

There’s no way you could possibly keep all of those guitars setup properly, intonated, fresh strings etc etc for when you wanted to play them unless you hired a guitar tech to work for you. I have 4 electrics and an acoustic and there’s no way if buy another without getting rid of one.

Well, you’re not playing all of them at the same time, so you don’t have to worry about making sure 150 instruments are all intonated with fresh strings.
As someone with way too many guitars, you rotate. And when one comes out of its case, you do a setup with fresh strings. And you put one away until it comes back out in a year or two lol.

That’s true. I guess for me if something isn’t being used for a year or two, especially a guitar, it’s time to move it on. Otherwise it becomes clutter.

That's more than fair.

How you gonna survive bro'?

Your wife plays guitar? That's so cool, man. My wife used to paint and scrapbook.

Nothing like moving gear, man.

I mean, my mom always ask me if I'm a professional musician or a studio owner, and the answer is staring me in the face when I look at my social media numbers.

This is despite the fact I use them all in rotation, as I do my amps.

Consequently, I am getting rid of my entire collection of hardware synths, a couple of guitars and some other doohickeys. Really scared about the amps though, I may never be able to get those back, and they are something of a "keeper" for someone like me who started out with a Zoom 505II.

Just don't let the cash influx convince you to buy something else.

What feeling is better than buying a guitar? Selling a guitar. A Stupid part of me thinks I need another guitar, but I really don't at all. In fact, the guitars I have I could store a couple of them away and forget about them. The two guitars that I post once in awhile are absolutely my primaries. And if I were to have a gig tomorrow I could just set them for for the same tuning and be good to go.

Back in the early days of San Dimas era Charvel collection (early 2000s), I recall someone had collected 150 of them and dedicated a bedroom (or two) to them. I seem to recall him being a decently paid professional, no children, driving an old beat-to-hell pickup and just spending his money collecting classic Charvels.

I keep trying to talk myself into getting organized and clearing out some things but not quite getting the motivation. I did a bunch of that in the early 2000's myself and have only accumulated a bit since then....but "a bit" does add up after a couple of decades!

Congrats I suppose but I only have 2 electrics anyway. One in E standard and one in drop C. And I'm with you guys on the clutter. If I'm not using it - I'd rather give it away to someone in need (especially) then let it collect dust. And selling anything is most always painful. Barely worth it. We give away more on our local Facebook Marketplace or Buy Nothing than we take in. Especially as we near retirement.

I have a bunch of guitars to put on consignment at a local store, I just have to get off my ass about it and restore the original pickups on them.

Oh, I didn't know that's the kind of intruments you were into...
